Patrick Sandoval's command struggles and inflated ratios limit fantasy appeal

Sandoval currently slots in as a back-end starter for the third-place Red Sox (80-67), helping cover rotation innings amid injuries to Garrett Crochet and Tanner Houck. The southpaw took the loss Tuesday against his former club, the Angels, yielding four earned runs on 10 hits over six frames. Over his last 14 days, Sandoval has labored with baserunners, recording a 4.77 ERA and a bloated 1.79 WHIP across 15.1 innings.

Traffic on the bases remains Sandoval's primary pitfall, reflected in his 1.81 WHIP and 4.70 ERA across 11 starts this season. While our projections envisioned better control with a 1.45 WHIP and 4.44 ERA over 73 innings, his career-long command woes suggest this ratio danger is no fluke.
