Thomas Saggese's red-hot September provides immediate fantasy utility for the Cardinals

Saggese has been swinging a hot bat down the stretch, slashing .319 over his last 14 days and batting .373 with three homers over the past month. The fourth-place Cardinals (75-78) are mired in a two-game slide, but Saggese's versatility has kept his bat in the lineup across multiple positions, especially with Joshua Báez sidelined by side tightness.

While his recent surge is encouraging, some regression is inevitable given our baseline season projection of a .244 average and .286 on-base percentage. Through 49 games this season, Saggese is batting .267 with four home runs, suggesting his month-long .998 OPS is well above his true talent level. Still, his solid bat-to-ball skills provide a respectable floor as long as regular playing time persists.

Looking at the remainder of the week, St. Louis finishes with three home games against Washington. Saggese faces a tough test Friday against Cade Cavalli (3.16 ERA), but the weekend matchups ease considerably against Andrew Alvarez (3.43 ERA) and Jake Irvin, who carries a vulnerable 5.42 ERA and 1.40 WHIP.
