Kurt Suzuki was productive in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Angels at McAfee Coliseum, as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He hit a single and a double.
Our View: Suzuki picked up his team-leading 37th double and 88th RBI, and proved to be a solid fantasy catcher in 2009.

In a down season for Oakland in almost every way, Suzuki has proven to be a real bright spot. While Oakland's struggles have rendered him somewhat anonymous, Suzuki's 88 RBIs trail only Victor Martinez, Joe Mauer and Brian McCann among big league backstops, and his 15 homers and .273 average are nice fantasy bonuses at a position with few true fantasy stars. Suzuki's .734 OPS is an indication of his on-field worth, but for fantasy purposes Suzuki has been a very pleasant surprise and a legitimate top-five performer at his position.

Wuertz notched his first save since July 20, but this doesn't seem to be an indication that Drew Bailey will lose the closer role. There hasn't been any word that Bailey's role is in trouble so continue to assume he'll get most of the save opportunities down the stretch.

It was Gutierrez's fifth hit and seventh time on base in the two games he has been leading off while Ichiro Suzuki rests a tight calf muscle. Then Ryan Langerhans, who entered for defense the inning before, smacked a 2-2 pitch into the first row of seats beyond right field. His winning home run landed in almost the same spot as his two-run shot in the 11th inning Aug. 7, when he entered in the seventh inning and then beat Tampa Bay.

News: From The Sports Xchange notes: Oakland has many young pitchers that draw raves, but there's always been a bit of an extra buzz about Henry A. Rodriguez. That is because Rodriguez, 22, throws 100 mph, a radar gun reading he hit several times Monday night in his major-league debut. However, Rodriguez had issues with his location, which is the primary reason he hasn't been called up before now. He walked one, hit a batter, threw two wild pitches and was late covering first base, costing second baseman Eric Patterson an error. He allowed two runs, one earned, in an inning. "Obviously you can see talent there, but he has a way to go from what I saw (Monday night)," Oakland manager Bob Geren said. "You don't see the scoreboard go to triple digits very often, but he's got to work on his command."
