Diamondbacks | Webb's option picked up
Joe Frisaro, of MLB.com, reports the Arizona Diamondbacks exercised their $8.5 million club option for the 2010 season on SP Brandon Webb Friday, Nov. 6. "Since Brandon has recovered well from his surgery, we have decided to exercise his option," general manager Josh Byrnes said. "His accomplishments for our organization have been significant. We look forward to him returning to the mound."

Steve Gilbert, the Diamondbacks beat reporter for MLB.com, is reporting on Twitter, says that the Diamondbacks have exercised the $8.5 million option for Brandon Webb for 2010.…this is good for Webb, as he will get another year to prove his arm is healthy before hitting the free agent market next year…

Diamondbacks exercised RHP Brandon Webb's $8.5 million option for 2010. Initially the Diamondbacks were said to be leaning against exercising the option, but once Webb made it clear that he was unwilling to negotiate a new contract it was either an $8.5 million risk or free agency. When healthy Webb is obviously worth far more than that, but he made just one start this season because of shoulder problems and is no sure thing to be his usual self following surgery.
