It’s official. We have made it through another off-season, you and I. We’ve survived an unplanned baseball-barren October (again), plus November, December, January, half of February, and made it to the other side.

For some reason the Dodgers are a week behind a bunch of clubs, later than usual, and open camp a week from tomorrow. I don’t care. I’m declaring the thaw finito, and am considering Spring Training as having begun anyway.

I’m sure someone’s in the training room at Camelback as we speak. We’ll just have to wait a little longer for the Clayton Kershaw-led Dodgers pitchers and catchers to break in their new practice unis, jump their first sets of jumping jacks, and occupy themselves with whatever in the world else they do the first official day. The off-season is over and all is right with the world. For the moment

Dodgers' Kershaw shuts out Cards

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Clayton Kershaw outdueled Jake Westbrook with a six-hitter for his fourth career shutout, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers over the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 Saturday night.

Kershaw in complete control

Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw (4-1) permitted only six hits in a complete-game shutout during Los Angeles' 6-0 victory over St. Louis in Saturday night. It was Kershaw's first complete game of the season -- and fourth of his career -- as he posted four strikeouts and did issue a walk while shaving his earned-run average to 1.90. He did not walk a batter for the third time this season. Kershaw recorded five complete games during his Cy Young Award-winning campaign last season.

Analysis: Kershaw cruised through the normally powerful Cardinals lineup and did not allow a runner past second base against an offense that came into the game leading the National League in batting average, runs and homers. The left-hander has been dominant over his past three starts and extended his scoreless streak to 22 innings while racking up two wins over that stretch. Fantasy owners should keep active in all formats for his next projected start Friday against Houston. He fanned nine batters in seven innings during his previous start against the Astros this season.
