Cardinals beat Redskins, 20-10
Updated: 1 a.m. In their final preseason tuneup before next Sunday night's opener against the Dallas Cowboys, the Redskins lost to the Arizona Cardinals, 20-10. On a night when some players needed to stand out to secure spots on the team, some made an impression, perhaps most notably wide receiver Terrence Austin and linebackers Robert Henson and Chris Wilson. But they will have to wait until Saturday to see if their last-ditch efforts paid off. It took just one play in the fourth quarter for the Redskins to finally find the end zone, as Richard Bartel hit Austin for a 21-yard touchdown to pull the Redskins within 20-10. Austin, a seventh round draft pick, ran a nice route and spun off his defender for the score. Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth remained in the game in the fourth quarter, a major surprise considering his stature and the importance of a final
Redskins | Albert Haynesworth may not start Week 1
Washington Redskins DL Albert Haynesworth may not be a starter for Week 1, reports Jason Reid, of The Washington Post. Haynesworth had a disappointing performance during the team's preseason finale, and often failed to adhere to the principles of a 3-4 scheme. During practice Saturday, Sept. 4, the team had him move back to nose tackle instead of playing at end where he had recently. He was also removed from the team's nickel package. Head coach Mike Shanahan has lost his patience with the continued drama.
The Albert smear campaign continues
It's not that I feel sorry for Albert Haynesworth or anything, but the well-orchestrated campaign against him from within the Washington Redskins organization is starting to get old. On Saturday night, the Washington Post once again delivered a scathing report about Haynesworth based on anonymous sources who claimed the defensive tackle was "awful" in last Thursday's preseason finale.
I guess it's really shocking news that Haynesworth would not put forth maximum effort in a fourth preseason game when 31 of his teammates were not in uniform. There are major leaks coming from this coaching staff and I don't get the sense that Shanahan's trying to identify the source. But all of this seems like overkill to me. It's not like the coaches need to build a case against Haynesworth. He spent the entire offseason indicting himself.
