The Dodgers announced Wednesday that right-hander Tony Gonsolin went unclaimed on waivers and elected free agency. He was designated for assignment last week. Gonsolin underwent a flexor repair and internal brace procedure on his right UCL back in August. The procedure came with a recovery timetable of eight to ten months. More to come.

New Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Thursday morning before his club opened practice at Camelback Ranch that infielder Alex Guerrero (left knee contusion) is a little further ahead than his other wounded teammates, Howie Kendrick (groin) and Justin Turner (recovery from left knee surgery).

Spin: "I think we will see Alex first," said Roberts, when asked about the progression of the trio and the injuries. Guerrero injured the knee sliding into the plate during a Cactus League game on Saturday. "He's taking batting practice, taking grounders, but as far as our comfort level of him playing in a Major League game, we're not there yet," Roberts said. As far as Turner is concerned, he underwent microfracture surgery on the knee this past October and has been rehabbing the injury since then. He'll continue taking swings in Minor League camp until further notice.

Dodgers third baseman Alex Guerrero was a late scratch from Saturday's starting lineup with a sore left knee.

Spin: Guerrero, 29, has been seeing significant early action at third base this spring as the club has been bringing starter Justin Turner along slowly after offseason knee surgery. A touted slugger when signed out of Cuba in 2013 to a four-year, $28 million contract, Guerrero became a player without a position when club officials determined that he couldn't make the transition from shortstop, which he played in Cuba, to second base.

Dodgers outfielder Alex Guerrero finished the 2015 regular season with a .233 average, 11 home runs, 36 RBIs, 25 runs scored and one stolen base.

Spin: Guerrero was one of eight Dodgers who reached double digits in homers in ’15. In April, he hit .429 with five homers and 13 RBIs across 26 at-bats.
