Luis Castillo | Fantasy Outlook

Luis Castillo has locked back into a groove after an unstable start to the year, but his near-term role demands caution.

The first-place Mariners are leaning heavily on a dominant pitching staff, and Castillo has surged back to form lately, posting a sparkling 2.51 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over his last 30 days. Despite early-season piggyback experiments, he remains an important arm in the staff, though key injuries to teammates Julio Rodriguez and Randy Arozarena may cap Seattle's run support.

While his overall 5.20 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the season still look bloated, Castillo's recent metrics are rapidly correcting toward our projected 3.76 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. His strikeout stuff remains highly effective with 65 strikeouts in 64.1 innings, indicating that his early-season struggles were a fluke rather than a permanent decline.

Looking at the remaining schedule for this week, Castillo is not currently slated for a start against Baltimore or Boston as the Mariners turn to other rotation members. Because he lacks a guaranteed starting assignment over the next few days, fantasy managers should keep him benched for now. Verdict: Sit.
