CINCINNATI — Welcome home, Juan. Boooooo.
Filling in for Chipper Jones on Monday, Braves third baseman Juan Francisco homered in his first at-bat back at his old home ballpark in Cincinnati. The second-inning solo shot tied the score at 1-all against his former team, and plenty of Reds fans booed as Francisco took a rather leisurely trot around the bases.
The former Reds corner-infield prospect was traded to Atlanta on the last weekend of spring training. Francisco didn’t get much playing time in Cincinnati with Joey Votto and Scott Rolen on the infield corners.
By securing tickets and taking a trip to Yankee Stadium, this Cincinnati Reds father-son duo — would already have had some lifetime memories no matter what happened during Friday's game between the Reds and Yankees.
But watch what happens as a foul ball off the Joey Votto's bat comes their way ...
There's really so much to like about that clip and I'm not sure that I've ever seen a fan catch a foul ball while being lifted a few seats over by another fan. That's some serious choreography!
What's also cool is the fact that the ball was hit by the best player on the Reds and that the catch never would have taken place if the ballpark Voltron's tinier half were not lefthanded. Top it all off cameras actually capturing the entire play on television and you've got a family highlight that's set for the permanent reel. Well done, Reds fans
Votto went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI Saturday against the Yankees.
Spin: Votto has been on an absolute tear this week, hitting three homers against the Nationals on Sunday and adding another on Thursday against the Mets. His slash line now stands at .308/.456/.594 and has even nabbed two bases.
