This article marks the first in a series of articles I will be writing throughout the season designed to provide you with some value beyond simply a particular slate and apply it to your own process. Although I will cover some team metrics I like to sift through to find betting value, they pale in comparison to what numbers and odds the books are giving you on a wager, as that can make all the difference in deciding if you have a wager to place.

Should you bet on NFL preseason games?
The Hall of Fame game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders signals the beginning of the NFL preseason. Many sports bettors are wondering whether they should bet on preseason football or whether that’s reserved for true degenerates. Preseason football is so hard to predict given the very limited snaps that starters play so how can you predict the outcome? It’s much more difficult, which is why I suggest saving most of your betting bankroll for the regular season.

Handicapping Is Past Tense
There are as many ways to handicap games as there are sports bettors.
Some are all over the stats, while others are all about looking at the matchups. Football bettors can begin looking at the numbers for the next week on Sunday nights, even before the last game of the day is final.

We’ve covered a ton of popular bet offerings from various sportsbooks but Round Robin bets are my new favorite wager type. The worst feeling in the world is getting five-of-six legs correct in a parlay and losing everything. With Round Robins, you would profit if you got five of the six bets correct, though the payout isn’t as great as getting all six correct. Conversely, if you do a five-leg Round Robin and only get three right, you won’t lose your entire stake. Depending on the odds, you will only lose a little bit or perhaps even break even if your underdog picks pan out.

When placing wagers on spreads and totals, the potential profit is often less than the original wager unless you link multiple bets in a parlay. This is because sportsbooks take out “vig” (often referred to as the juice). Wagering on moneylines can result in even smaller payouts, especially when betting on massive favorites. If you are looking for wagers with much bigger rewards but aren’t all that successful with parlays, futures bets are a potentially great way to maximize the return on your investment.

What Is A Teaser Bet?
In the sports betting world, a teaser is similar to a parlay in that multiple games or “legs” are linked and all picks must be correct in order for the bet to cash. However, teasers are slightly different than parlays in the sense that the bettor can increase or decrease the spread or Over/Under in their favor by a designated number of points.

What Is A Parlay?
A parlay is a wager in which at least two bets are linked together to create one bet with tougher odds, but a greater payout. Bettors can parlay point spreads, moneylines, over/unders, prop bets, or a combination. Parlays allow bettors to combine tons of different types of wagers. However, every single pick in a parlay bet must be correct in order to win. If one “leg” of the parlay is wrong, even if the rest of the picks are accurate, the entire bet loses. Since the odds of winning multiple bets are much lower, the payouts are much higher.
Sportsbooks will give you bigger and bigger payouts for adding more games or “legs” to your parlay because winning gets more unlikely with the more picks you add. Sports bettors tend to love parlays because of the massive return on the investment should the bet hit. That said, the more picks tied together, the more difficult it is to win a parlay bet.

Betting on spreads, moneylines, and totals are the most popular bet types when it comes to wagering on sports. However, these types of bets are solely based on the outcome of the game. Perhaps you are more knowledgeable about a specific player than the entire team? That’s where player props can be critical wagering opportunities to take advantage of.
