24. Jaguars (21): Maybe they should relocate to London. Jags have won three in a row at Wembley Stadium, where they’ll take on Philadelphia in Week 8.

With the team sticking with quarterback Blake Bortles, the Jags will be a hard sales pitch to any fanbase at the rate they’re going, regardless as to if that’s in Jacksonville or London. That said, hopefully, some good old London magic will run off on him and get the veteran quarterback on track]]> 5339336 Tue, 23 Oct 2018 13:21:02 EDT Jaguars Wire
<![CDATA[Report: Jaguars have no interest in trading for Eli Manning]]> Eli Manning has a no-trade clause in his contract that he’s said on several occasions already he would not waive, but despite that, it hasn’t stopped fans and pundits from pounding that drum raw.

In recent weeks, it’s been suggested that the Giants trade Manning to the Oakland Raiders, the Arizona Cardinals, the San Francisco 49ers, the Buffalo Bills and, of course, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While none of those trades will happen (now or ever), the notion simply couldn’t be let go. And with Blake Bortles struggling in Jacksonville, many ignored Manning’s no-trade clause and figured he’d ultimately end up there]]> 5339123 Tue, 23 Oct 2018 9:51:01 EDT Giants Wire
<![CDATA[NFL Week 7: Drew Brees and Cam Newton rally the troops on the road and Todd Gurley raises his MVP stock]]> Drew Brees and Cam Newton pulled off comeback wins on the road. Todd Gurley scored some more touchdowns. The Titans gambled in London. Blake Bortles got benched. And two players got into it on the field … before the coin toss.

You know, your typical NFL week. Let’s hit the highlights.

Per coach Doug Marrone, he had a meeting with both Bortles and backup Cody Kessler about the decision, however, it appears that Bortles might be on a short leash if his play doesn’t improve.

Statement from Jaguars Coach Doug Marrone:

<![CDATA[Blake Bortles has tenuous grasp on starting job]]> Cody Kessler to work with first-team this week

While Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will start, the team will get Cody Kessler ready by giving him rest with the 1s, I’m told. It Bortles falters, they could make another change. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: Bortles has officially been put on notice, to put it kindly. He could theoretically save his job with a solid performance against the Philadelphia Eagles heading into the team's Week 9 bye or the Jags could ultimately decide to make the move to Cody Kessler at some point. Although he is that obvious risk for another in-game benching, Jacksonville is pretty much married to Bortles through 2019 after extending his contract three years this winter.]]> 5338686 Mon, 22 Oct 2018 19:03:01 EDT

The offense and Jags quarterback Blake Bortles made history by putting together their third consecutive scoreless half and a benching of the veteran quarterback followed. Many other things went wrong throughout the process, however, here are our three of our biggest takeaways from Week 7’s embarrassing outing for the Jags:

Most would make the argument that the Jags’ defense seems a little dysfunctional at the moment, but at least they have leaders to turn to. In Sunday’s game against the Texans, the Jags offense clearly didn’t have an alpha in their huddle and were looking for an answer]]> 5338572 Mon, 22 Oct 2018 17:03:01 EDT Jaguars Wire

Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles will reportedly start Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles but will be on thin ice according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Jaguars' QB Cody Kessler will get reps this week with Jacksonville's starting offense, and Blake Bortles will be on "a short leash", but he will retain his starting job Sunday against the Philadephia Eagles]]> 5338557 Mon, 22 Oct 2018 17:00:03 EDT Eagles Wire

Bortles was benched at halftime of Sunday's 20-7 loss to Houston, with Cody Kessler handling the final two quarters and producing just 5.2 yards per pass attempt. Faced with a pair of uninspired options, coach Doug Marrone seemed to drop a hint that a change was coming, but he ultimately decided to stick with his long-time starter. The situation could come under review again during the Jaguars' bye week if Bortles struggles in London.

<![CDATA[Jaguars | Jacksonville mum about starting quarterback]]> Blake Bortles was not immediately named the starter for Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, Oct. 22. Head coach Doug Marrone told reporters he has yet to make a decision and won't until he has a chance to speak to the team.]]> 5338491 Mon, 22 Oct 2018 16:12:01 EDT footballguys <![CDATA[May be getting benched]]> Coach Doug Marrone said he won't reveal his decision between Bortles or Cody Kessler for the starting quarterback job until he's discussed the matter with his players, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports.

The fact it requires a discussion with the team seems like a hint that Marrone will make a change for Sunday's game against the Eagles in London. Bortles completed less than 60 percent of his passes in each of the last three games, culminating in a benching at halftime of Sunday's 20-7 loss to the Texans. Of course, Kessler was far from brilliant in the second half, producing just 5.2 yards per pass attempt with four sacks, a touchdown and an interception. The Jacksonville passing game seems doomed to struggle for the rest of the season.
