Spin: "If I throw a bullpen tomorrow, they'll probably tell me what the plan is," Urias said. "I'm fighting for a spot in the rotation, and it seems this is the way they are managing me, and I have to respect that. You don't know what's going to happen. You hope everyone stays healthy, first and foremost, but you don't know what's going to happen." The 20-year-old Urias' innings have been limited by management, and now he's coming off a bout with strep throat that was a further setback in his preparation. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the door "hasn't closed" on Urias being in the rotation to start the season, even though he mentioned the other five as being "lined up" with their next scheduled starts. "It would be unrealistic to say he'll start the season built up completely," Roberts said. "The door's not closed. To say he's up to 100 pitches is not realistic. There's a certain amount of innings that we're trying to find a way to have those innings when it matters most. All the games matter, I get that, but we're still navigating our way with Julio."]]> 4829502 Mon, 20 Mar 2017 16:35:08 EDT
<![CDATA[Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday that it's "unrealistic"]]> Dave Roberts said Monday that it's "unrealistic" for Julio Urias to make the starting rotation out of camp. The young left-hander will be re-evaluated later this week. Urias was probably already going to begin the year in extended spring training as the Dodgers looked to manage his workload, and this missed time likely enhances those chances. [...]]]> 4828166 Sun, 19 Mar 2017 13:42:19 EDT <![CDATA[Urias unlikely to be part of Opening Day rotation]]> Brandon McCarthy made 60 pitches on Wednesday, Julio Urias only 30. Guess which one is being prepared for the Dodgers' starting rotation when the season opens, and which one isn't?

Spin: The pitchers said they haven't been told. But even while allowing three runs in 3 2/3 innings in Wednesday's 12-7 win over Seattle, it looks like McCarthy will make it back to the rotation after Tommy John surgery and two years of challenges. Meanwhile, management is signaling that the 20-year-old Urias will be left behind in extended Spring Training to limit innings, even if he is one of the five best starters in camp. He expects to learn his fate soon. "They haven't told me anything," said Urias. "I'm guessing this week they have to make up their mind and give me their game plan. I have to respect whatever they say, whether they say to pitch for one batter or one out, I will respect their decision and do my work." Management seems to be hedging its bets with Urias. He was brought in for big-league camp and began preparations in case he was needed to start the season, but now that McCarthy and Alex Wood appear ready to reclaim their roles, Urias' workload has been reduced.]]> 4824758 Thu, 16 Mar 2017 16:56:23 EDT
