The Ottawa Senators franchise is an embarrassment

Source | 4 days ago.

The Ottawa Senators have not been by any stretch of the term a model franchise. The Ottawa Senators are a steaming-hot pile of malodorous garbage right now. The most recent stench-ridden saga surrounding the Sens was brought to the forefront on Tuesday when it leaked that Melinda Karlsson, wife of Erik, filed an order of protection against the girlfriend of teammate Mike Hoffman back on May 4, alleging she lead a torturous harassment campaign against the Karlsson family following the death of their newborn son last season.

Six players who should stay put this summer

Over the next couple of months there will be a lot of trades that get made throughout the NHL. Based on his career it seems that the Phi Kessel experience has a shelf life with whatever organization he is playing for. General manager Jim Rutherford has downplayed the whole thing and summed up the entire ordeal becoming a story this offseason as perfectly as anyone could have when he said this to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about a week ago.

A rebuttal to the detractors who continue to discredit Ovechkin, Capitals

Source | 6 days ago.

Ovechkin will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, was included among the NHL's Top 100 Greatest Players list and is the best goal-scorer of his generation, perhaps even of all-time. The only real blemish on Ovechkin's career, if you could call it that, was the fact that he had not won a Stanley Cup. First, the degree of importance we give winning the Stanley Cup towards a person's individual legacy is ridiculous.

Alex Ovechkin overcame plenty of heartbreak to become a Stanley Cup champion

During Alex Ovechkin’s first year in the NHL he was swimming at the house of Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis. Ovechkin was still new to the league, didn’t quite know the entire organization just yet, but he shared that dream with Leonsis. Little did they know it would take nearly 15 years from Ovechkin’s draft day for it to finally become a reality.

How the Capitals' many close calls added up to a big Stanley Cup victory

Source | 10 days ago.

First thing’s first: The Las Vegas Golden Knights were close. No Stanley Cup final series can be reduced to mere millimeters, but when so many small distances conspire to create such a large difference, it’s difficult not to notice them. The most obvious was The Save – Washington Capitals’ goaltender Braden Holtby’s sprawling stick stop against Alex Tuch with two minutes left in Game 2.

PHT Stanley Cup Final Roundtable: Vegas’ speed, X-factors

Source | 20 days ago.

How will the Washington Capitals be able to counteract the Vegas Golden Knights’ speed? SEAN: Physicality helps, but the Capitals have also found themselves susceptible to an odd-man here and there, so smart decision-making on that end will be important. The Capitals won neutral zone battles against other fast teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning, so if they’re able to successfully slow Vegas down in the middle of the ice and force them to adjust, that will result in fewer successful zone entries and the potential turnover or two.
