The Washington secondary was terrible in Week 1. The Commanders allowed Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield to complete 80% of his passes and throw four touchdowns.
Throughout the week, players and coaches believe communication breakdowns led to several big plays. For the team’s fans, that’s not encouraging, considering how the prior regime dealt with communication breakdowns in the secondary on a seemingly weekly basis.
Pro Football Focus gave three members of Washington’s secondary their lowest defensive grades for last Sunday’s game. One of those players, cornerback Emmanuel Forbes, will miss the Week 2 game against the New York Giants after undergoing thumb surgery Friday

#Bucs standout DT Vita Vea, who left the game with a knee injury, received an initial diagnosis of MCL sprain, source says. MRI tomorrow, but the hope is that it's not an extended absence.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers led the team to a win through the air last week against the Commanders. They are doing the same this week now against the Lions. The team started out slow with some critical drives ending short but they rectified that.
In major part, to Liam Coen’s play design and wide receiver, Chris Godwin is making plays.
In the second quarter, the Lions and Bucs were tied, but that changed when Baker Mayfield connected with Chris Godwin outside the hashes for a long touchdown play. That play gave the Bucs the lead, and Godwin had his 36th career game of 100 receiving yards
Bucs RB Rachaad White is questionable to return due to a groin injury.
Bucs K Chase McLaughlin is now 26-31 on FG tries of 50-plus yards after booting a 55-yarder in Detroit. McLaughlin is the NFL's all-time leader in FG percentage from 50-plus yards.

The Detroit Lions won the battle of the stat sheet but lost the scoreboard war against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. Tampa Bay scored a 20-16 road win in Ford Field, avenging the NFC Divisional Round loss by the Lions last January.
Detroit suffered from poor red zone efficiency, untimely defensive lapses and an off day from a few key players, notably QB Jared Goff and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
