The 49ers had an early injury scare in their Week 2 win over the Rams when wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk went down with what appeared to be a left shoulder injury. He did return to the game and head coach Kyle Shanahan in his postgame press conference didn’t sound too worried about his star WR.
Aiyuk got landed on after a diving grab and grabbed at his left shoulder on the ground before walking to the blue medical tent for evaluation.
He came back for the 49ers’ next series, but his playing time throughout the contest was sporadic. Shanahan classified it as a shoulder injury, but didn’t sound too worried about any long-term issues

Game News

With the chance to extend their lead to double-figures late in the game, the San Francisco 49ers put the ball in Deebo Samuel’s hands. After driving the ball nearly 75 yards down the field, Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy turned to Sameul for a vintage performance.
From the 11-yard line, Purdy swung the ball around to Sameul in the flag. While the play initially looked like it was headed towards a short gain, Samuel went to work. The 49ers’ pass catcher navigated through traffic and broke tackle after tackle on his way to a score

It wasn’t perfect, but the 49ers used a dominating second half effort to defeat the Rams 30-23 on Sundy to improve to 2-0 on the season. With the victory, San Francisco’s ninth consecutive regular season win over their rivals, the 49ers took sole possession of the NFC West lead.
Here are the answers to my five burning questions for this game.
1 Will Brock Purdy keep the streaks alive? Not all of them.
Brock Purdy’s streak of throwing at least two touchdowns and having a passer rating over 95 came to an end against the Rams. More importantly, he extended his regular season win streak to seven in a row

Trailing by a touchdown to the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers received the ball with under two minutes remaining in the first half in Hollywood. Just enough time for Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan.
After leading a drive right down the field with connections to Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers were sitting at first and goal. However, the clock was ticking down to the final seconds.
Following some unsuccessful plays at the goal line and penalties, there was only one second left on the clock. Instead of opting for a field goal to get points on the board, Shanahan kept his offense on the field and put faith in his young passer

This is the live blog for the 49ers 2023 week two matchup with the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The winner today will take the top spot in the NFC West. I will provide live updates and analysis from the press box throughout the game.
11:30 Here are my five burning questions the 49ers need to answer today.
11:37 Inactive for the 49ers today: QB Brandon Allen, OL Nick Zakelj, DL Kalia Davis, LB Jalen Graham, RB Ty Davis-Price
Rookie linebacker Dee Winters and rookie tight end Brayden Willis will make their regular season debuts for the 49ers today. Also making his NFL debut today will be cornerback Tre Swilling. San Francisco elevated Swilling from the practice squad this week to replace Samuel Womack who was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury

Kyren Williams didn’t score a touchdown last season but he’s apparently bought some land in the end zone this year. After scoring once already in the first half against the 49ers, Williams punched it in for another touchdown in the second quarter to give the Rams a 17-10 lead.
The first came on a reception but the second was just a great effort up the middle by Williams, who lowered his shoulder and bowled into the end zone for six.
It’s his fourth touchdown through the first six quarters of the season already, making the Rams look smart for committing to him as their starter up to this point

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua set the NFL single-game record for most receptions by a rookie with 15 catches in a 30-23 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Rams running back Cam Akers is inactive for Sunday's game against the 49ers.

Remember the name Puka Nacua because if you’re ever asked a trivia question about who has the most catches in his first two NFL games, he’s the answer.
With yet another outstanding performance against the 49ers on Sunday, Nacua set the NFL record for the most receptions ever by a player in his first two career games. It broke the tie with Earl Cooper of the 49ers, who had 19 in his first two games. No other player had more than 18, and Nacua is already up to 22 catches – and counting.
Nacua is doing his best Cooper Kupp impression, operating as the Rams’ No. 1 receiver out of the slot. He may not be creating a lot of big plays, but he’s moving the chains and picking up good chunks of yardage

Week 2 didn’t go the way the Rams hoped it would, falling to the 49ers at home, 30-23. It was a close game throughout, with no team going up by more than 10 points, and the Rams had a chance to make things really interesting late in the fourth quarter before Matthew Stafford threw a costly pick.
Despite the defeat, Los Angeles still looks like a contender in the NFC West. It won’t be easy to overtake the 49ers for the division lead at any point this year, but the Rams already look significantly better than they were expected to

If you bet the San Francisco 49ers to cover the 7.5-point spread against the Los Angeles Rams, you have a bone to pick with Sean McVay.
The Rams were trailing 30-20 with 4 seconds left, and rather than taking a shot at the end zone from the 49ers’ 20-yard line to go out with a touchdown – or even just run the ball to kill the clock – Los Angeles kicked a field goal. Yes, a meaningless field goal to make the score 30-23.
Sure, McVay could’ve been going for some kind of tiebreaker with point differential if it ever came down to that, but it sure looks like he just wanted the backdoor cover for anyone who bet on his Rams

Joe Noteboom has dealt with injuries throughout his career and on Sunday against the 49ers, he went down once again. In the second half of the game, Noteboom exited with a shoulder injury and is listed as questionable to return.
Noteboom was replaced by Tremayne Anchrum Jr. in the lineup at right guard.
Last season, Noteboom tore his Achilles and missed most of the season, but he bounced back and earned a starting role at right guard. He was projected to be the starting left tackle when the Rams signed him to an extension last season but he’s since moved to the interior
