ðŸˆJets at Steelers: #Jets have no excuses against Mitch Trubisky, who hasn't had a QBR above 60 in a start since Week 17 of 2020 season. One area of concern: Has 203 pass yds from outside the pocket, 2nd-most among QBs behind Justin Herbert (204).

FINAL: #Chargers 34, Texans 24 Got a lot closer than it should have, but LAC are back to .500 at 2-2. Austin Ekeler with three TDs.
The season-ending surgery for #Chargers star LT Rashawn Slater may not be season-ending, after all. Sources say the team will leave an IR/to return spot for him and he has a chance to be back late in the season. My story on the potential late-season lift: nfl.com/news/chargers-…
Mike Williams with a 50-yard catch-and-run to put the Chargers on the 20-yard line.
Why go away from Joshua Kelley? I don't get it.

Khalil Mack unblocked on the PA bootleg. Bold strategy from Texans. It did not pay off.
Sony Michel: 6 carries for 11 yards, all in the second half
Brandon Staley on Isaiah Spiller: "He needs to prove that he's one of the top 3 backs, and I think he's making progress. ...He's in practice and we're seeing him compete. We're seeing him in the kicking game, and when he's one of our top 3 backs, then he'll be up on game day."
Brandon Staley said Sebastian Joseph-Day had an "ow-ie" in his finger at the end of the game. When asked for clarification, Staley said, "Like, ‘ow that hurt.'" Full Dad Mode initiated.
Another catch from Michael Bandy, who is in there for Josh Palmer. Palmer has his helmet off and is walking around a little gingerly on the sideline.
Texans cannot handle Morgan Fox on the interior so far today. His second pressure results in a sack.
Jamaree Salyer is at LT with starting O line during warmups.
Really, really silly penalty on Michael Davis at gunner. Got to get out of the way and let the returner make the catch.
Jerry Tillery with the sack fumble. What a move. #Charges can't recover it, though.
The Chargers will adjust to a new defensive game plan after losing Joey Bosa to a groin strain. The good news? They’ll do so against the Texans, the third-worst offense in the league per DVOA. Houston did turn last year’s Week 16 contest into a trap game for Los Angeles, though.
Here are four ways LA can avoid that outcome on Sunday.
I don’t think Chargers fans need to be reminded of how the run defense looked in Week 16 against the Texans last season. The Texans’ run game has improved since then with the addition of rookie Dameon Pierce, but so has LA’s run defense with the additions of Sebastian Joseph-Day, Austin Johnson, and Morgan Fox. Still, Joey Bosa was a large part of the success as a run defense to start this season, and you saw Jacksonville exploit Bosa’s backup Chris Rumph last week once Bosa went down. LA needs to find a way to keep Houston from replicating last year’s performance, especially with a Texans passing game that has struggled to get going thus far this season
The Chargers have struck first against Houston.
After a Nasir Adderley interception gave Los Angeles the ball at the Texans’ 25, Justin Herbert and company found their way into the end zone early in the first quarter.
After a neutral zone infraction shortened the sticks to a third and three, Herbert found tight end Gerald Everett up the seam against rookie safety Jalen Pitre. Everett went up and high-pointed the ball, leaving Pitre with no chance to make a play.
Watch Everett haul it in here
With Keenan Allen out for the third straight week, the Chargers may be utilizing the same short game-focused offense we’ve seen from Joe Lombardi, especially as Justin Herbert recovers from his rib injury.
Here are four keys on the offensive side of the ball against the Texans.
Please, please, please get Austin Ekeler more involved on Sunday. Houston is giving up the most rushing yards per game of anyone through three games, allowing an average of 202.3 yards per contest. The defensive line has consistently been pushed off the line and safety Jonathan Owens leads the team in tackles. But the Chargers are also last in the league in rushing yards per game at just 59. Part of that has been getting away from it too early, part of it has been ineffectiveness, and part of it has, in my opinion, been about personnel. Isaiah Spiller is reportedly fully healthy, and if you want to inject some juice into the rushing attack, the rookie is the obvious choice. But Brandon Staley has said that Spiller needs to earn his spot on the gameday roster over Joshua Kelley and Sony Michel, citing special teams as their main area of concern. Speaking of Kelley, he’s looked like the best pure runner this season but was relegated to garbage time only against Jacksonville. Sunday’s matchup with Houston should give Los Angeles plenty of opportunity to get their rotation hammered out
Asante Samuel Jr. has really tackled well in space early on this season.
Derwin James is having fun…and he is really good at football.
Chris Rumph did a great job setting the edge there on that first down run.

The Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans are about to go head-to-head on Sunday afternoon.
Before the matchup, Texans Wire managing editor Mark Lane spoke with us about Los Angeles’ opponent.
Is there reason to be concerned about how uninvolved the wide receivers, especially Brandin Cooks, have been in the passing game?
ML — Yes, because it means the Texans can’t sustain drives. It also means Davis Mills is seeing the receivers and is hesitant to zip the ball in there. Cooks especially was able to have a decent year in 2021 despite the Texans being one of the worst offenses in the NFL, and they had a rookie Mills slinging the ball for most of the season. As much talk as there is of the offense being run-heavy and rookie Dameon Pierce having a legitimate shot to be a playmaking running back, today’s NFL is built around passing. At some point, you have to pass, and when the Texans do, they’re bad at it

My God! Why is Burkhead on the field on third down? On third and 10 at the Chargers 34, Mills tosses a shovel pass to Burkhead, who's stopped after a 6-yard gain. Unbelievable the way Pep Hamilton keeps getting the ball to Burkhead! @gallerysports
Derek Stingley Jr on arm getting bruised 'I feel fine'
Laremy Tunsil: ' Whole entire offense, we all had plays we could have done better. I had two penalties. That's unacceptable on my part, especially being the leader here, being a vet. I got to eliminate those."
The Houston Texans may have had a letdown against the Los Angeles Chargers, falling 34-24 Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium, but their rookie running back did not.
Although the Texan fell to 0-3-1 on the year, fourth-rounder Dameon Pierce assuredly had his breakout game. The former Florida product tallied 14 carries for 131 yards and a touchdown — including a 75-yard gallop that provided a much needed boost for the Texans’ offense to keep pace with Los Angeles.
“In the NFL, that’s hard to do,†coach Lovie Smith said of Pierce’s 75-yard touchdown run. “He is just kind of showing you all of the things that he can do.â€

The Houston Texans are taking it on the chin at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers, 24-7 late in the second quarter Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium.
The Texans are also battling the injury bug as linebacker Blake Cashman is out with a head injury after being evaluated for a concussion in the second quarter
