This looks like an offense that really needs Brandin Cooks and all of their talented players (ahem, Pierce & Green) if they're going to have any chance at sustained success #WeAreTexans

Texans are looking for someone to step up at running back beyond Dameon Pierce. Pierce didn't do any reps at walkthrough. Team loved what he did last week. When you get the evaluation you want, you don't necessarily have to double down in preseason.

Texans rookie offensive guard Kenyon Green is not slated to play against the Rams for precautionary reasons, per a league source, having just returned to practice Wednesday after being cleared under NFL concussion protocol.
Lovie Smith has a straightforward approach to determining who will be the starting running back for the Houston Texans in 2022.
“I think you let guys play,†Smith told reporters on Aug. 17.
The Texans have five running backs on the roster in Rex Burkhead, Marlon Mack, rookie Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale, and Royce Freeman, but the top three truly are the only ones vying for the starting job.
“They kind of tell you who should start, who should be on the roster, how many plays they should get,†Smith said. “We’ve been going through training camp, practice, we’ve seen a lot, but to see guys finish, I thought that was a big game.â€

The Houston Texans defense may feature some blitzing after all.
With 13:24 to go in the first quarter of the Texans’ preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium, linebacker Christian Kirksey came through the middle on a blitz to drop quarterback John Wolford for a 5-yard loss on first-and-10 from the Rams’ 32-yard line
Other Texans players not scheduled to play: linebackers Christian Harris (hamstring) Garret Wallow (ankle), and Kevin Pierre-Louis, tight end Antony Auclair (right knee), nickel back Tavierre Thomas (pulled quadriceps), wide receiver Drew Estrada (leg)

Texans starting o-line: LT Cedric Ogbuehi LG Max Scharping C Jimmy Morrissey RG A.J. Cann RT Tytus Howard
Houston Texans defensive lineman Thomas Booker is another Stanford product on the roster.
The fifth-rounder says that going to the prestigious school in the Pac-12 Conference helped him discover how to study, not only in academics, but also in football.
“Throughout college, both football wise and academic wise, I had like an iPad that I would write on with notes, so, I kind of carried that on to the league,†Booker told reporters on Aug. 17. “I treat all my meetings like classroom sections because that’s kind of what it is.â€
Wolford sacked on third and 11, Matt Gay's FG is good.

Derion Kendrick and Jake Gervase combine for a big takeaway there. Gervase shed his block to tackle the runner and force a fumble and Kendrick scooped it up.
Not to be dramatic (because it's the preseason) but I'm not really sure how you can truly evaluate John Wolford after that first half. Five sacks. What worked: McCutcheon connection and pressure-beater throws/catch-and-run to Calais. Hopkins looks solid as well.
Nice play by Robert Rochell on third down. PBU and read it well.
Good play by Terrell Burgess to shed his block and prevent what would otherwise have been a first down, maybe more.
The Houston Texans played their first team offense for the entire first half against the Los Angeles Rams in the second preseason game Friday night at SoFi Stadium.
The Texans had six drives where they could evaluate how well the offense was doing. Houston also had a less difficult challenge as the Texans’ offense was going up against the second and third teamers of the Rams, as opposed to Aaron Donald, Bobby Wagner, and Jalen Ramsey.
Here are four takeaways from the Texans’ first-team offense as they had the entire first half of work against the Rams in the second preseason tilt
Third quarter - Bryce Perkins takes over at QB.
Last week, the Rams’ local broadcast invited Sean McVay to join the coverage during the game against the Chargers, commentating on the action live from the sideline. Against the Texans, it was Raheem Morris’ turn.
NFL Network linked Morris’ headset into the coverage and had him analyzing the game as plays were happening. Morris isn’t calling the plays in the preseason so that’s why it’s possible, and he just happened to be talking to the booth when the Rams came up with a strip-sack by Williams
Morris’ reaction was awesome, getting so excited about the play to end the Texans’ drive
The Rams’ top draft pick this year, Logan Bruss, has been working with the backup offensive line in the preseason as he gets his feet wet in the NFL. Unfortunately, that puts him at risk of injury.
During Friday’s game against the Texans, Bruss’ left leg collided with another player in the second quarter. Bruss came up limping and walking gingerly, heading to the sideline and eventually the locker room.
He also appeared to have a brace on his left knee after suffering the injury, though the severity is not yet clear
