Game News
Trill Williams just seemingly suffered a knee injury and is seemingly crying on the field. This is NOT GOOD. He was their best backup in my opinion.
Sony Michel starts at RB for Dolphins. Michael Deiter starts at C.
Tyreek Hill liked what he saw from 49ers rookie Samuel Womack during the 49ers' preseason win over the Packers on Friday night.
Skylar Thompson is a year older than Tua lol did not realize that
NEW: If Mike McDaniel can make Skylar Thompson look this good, imagine what he can do for Tua profootballnetwork.com/if-mike-mcdani…
Long list of #Dolphins not playing in preseason game in Tampa tonight: Among them: Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Xavien Howard, Jevon Holland, Christian Wilkins, Jerome Baker and Terron Armstead. pic.twitter.com/dFwnEJhEr1
Skylar Thompson to Lynn Bowden, TD! It's Thompson's first pro TD (yes, it's preseason). It's good for 22 yards.
According to @DBWilson2, Skylar Thompson is older than Tua Tagovailoa. I will assume this is true and not look it up. #FinsUp #LookUpToTheSkylar
According to NextGen Stats, Dolphins TE Tanner Conner has hit a max speed of 20.88mph -- the fourth-fastest registered speed tonight
Dolphins K Jason Sanders seems to have returned to form. He's made his field goals from 33, 52 and 53 yards tonight.
Skylar Thompson strikes Cedrick Wilson across the middle. Thompson has shown a strong arm all camp. #FinsUp #KSU
What a series for OLB Anthony Nelson. He drops RB Salvon Ahmed for a loss of three on first down and then gets a third-down sack on Skylar Johnson to force a 52-yard field goal attempt.
Difficult to determine who is more at fault here but I'm not totally sure what Brandon Jones' assignment was on this play twitter.com/Marcel_LJ/stat… pic.twitter.com/9xI8RNl2if
I've seen 2-3 missed tackles on this drive from Sam Eguavoen -- poor tackling has extended the drive. Can't have that
The Miami Dolphins are ready to begin their first campaign under new head coach Mike McDaniel, as they’re taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday night.
For the matchup, the Dolphins have listed 17 players as “Not Expected to Play,†including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Joining Tagovailoa on this list are running backs Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert, fullback Alec Ingold, wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, tight end Adam Shaheen, offensive linemen Connor Williams and Terron Armstead, defensive linemen Zach Sieler and Christian Wilkins, defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, linebackers Melvin Ingram, Jerome Baker and Elandon Roberts, cornerback Xavien Howard and safety Jevon Holland
Might see this Elijah Campbell INT on @SportsCenter later twitter.com/MiamiDolphins/…
Prior to the Miami Dolphins preseason opener on Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team announced a number of players are not expected to play, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Just before the game, however, The Palm Beach Post’s Joe Schad reported that rookie quarterback Skylar Thompson is expected to start the game and could potentially play all four quarters.
Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will be available, but it appears that the Dolphins want to get an extended look at their seventh-round pick out of Kansas State
LT Larnel Coleman involved in sack of Skylar Thompson that forces Dolphins to go for FG. Coleman/Greg Little (out tonight) need to step up or Miami will add a veteran tackle.
Xavien Howard on facing Mike McDaniel's O, via CBS: "He makes you think." #FinsUp
Tackle Kion Smith involved in second sack of Skylar Thompson in Dolphins-Bucs game. What's most important is Terron Armstead stays healthy and Austin Jackson continues ascent. But as for 3rd tackle...
Trent Sherfield and River Cracraft have both been much better than I expected coming into training camp. Cutting down the WR room is going to be difficult when the time comes
#Dolphins DB Keion Crossen just continuing his amazing start to this season. He's been like that most of training camp, too.
Kyle Trask finishes 25-for-33 for 258 yards on the night, with a touchdown and two turnovers. Big throws to convert on fourth and third down on final drive, but Borregales' kick just misses from 49.
Bucs RB Giovani Bernard out vs. Dolphins with ankle injury nfl.com/news/nfl-news-… pic.twitter.com/IgR3x7rxuZ
Ke'Shawn Vaughn scores from one-yard out on third-and-goal and who was the lead blocker? Glass-eating rookie TE Ko Kieft. Keep that in mind as the Bucs try to figure out who to keep on the 53 among RBs/TEs/WRs.
Bucs won't have many of their starters playing tonight, but it should be a good look at all of their draft picks. First chance for Logan Hall, Luke Goedeke, Rachaad White, Cade Otton, Jake Camarda, Zyon McCollum, Ko Kieft and Andre Anthony to play on their home field.
Ouch. Jose Borregales misses a 49-yard kick that bounces off the right upright as time expires. Bucs lose 26-24 to the Dolphins in their preseason opener.

Another catch by Tyler Johnson for a 22-yard catch and run on a slant route. Mike Evans raved about the way he came into training camp. The thing I wanted to see more from him this year is physicality and separation. He was getting pushed around at times last year.
Just to reiterate Tyler Johnson solidifying himself as the Bucs' fifth WR: seven targets tonight, six catches for 73 yards. Rest of the receivers have two targets and one catch -- Darden's 24-yard touchdown.
Blaine Gabbert is 5-for-5 for 56 yards and a touchdown. Two nice catches from Tyler Johnson on the drive, then Jaelon Darden with a 24-yard touchdown. Those two are the early favorites for Bucs' 5th and 6th WR jobs.
"There's a lot of good film to watch." 🗣: HC Todd Bowles on the depth at wide receiver pic.twitter.com/X6s121CrTz
We can anticipate Bucs who were held out of practices this week won't play, so in addition to top starters, no WR Russell Gage or Breshad Perriman, OLB JoJo Ozougwu. OT Josh Wells excused (baby born this week). Not sure if S Troy Warner would go.
Tom Brady's training-camp hiatus did not arise from health of Brady or any of his family members, per @NFLSTROUD. wp.me/pbBqYq-ckOy
Two straight drives ended by third-down plays by Rutgers undrafted rookie OLB Olakunle Fatukasi, this time as he keeps scrambling QB Skylar Thompson from getting past the sticks.
Anthony Nelson got a sack on third down to end the Miami drive at the Bucs' 34, now a long field goal. Nelson with a TFL and sack on same drive, much like Cam Gill on the first drive.
Trask to rookie tight end Cade Otton for first down and 10 yards.
Storylines to watch tonight for Bucs vs. Dolphins: -- Hainsey settling in as starting center -- Left guard competition -- How does Kyle Trask look? -- Kicker battle: Ryan Succop vs. Jose Borregales -- Backup receivers get a chance to impress -- Draft picks all over the field
Trask with nice pass to Kaylon Geiger for 21-yard gain. Trask is now 15-for-21 for 190 yards ...
Trask converts on fourth and 12 with throw to Jerreth Sterns. Across midfield ...
Trask to Deven Thompkins to the Miami 31. Bucs are in field goal range.
Lavonte David in the middle of the Bucs huddle at midfield, amping up the players who are actually playing ...
ILB Grant Stuard has a hamstring injury and will not return. pic.twitter.com/iyD9UsfvFJ
A big third-down sack for Bucs -- Dee Delaney blitzed and Pat O'Connor got him down. Loss of 9 yards, so now a 53-yard field goal for the lead ...
Scotty Miller has been in as a third receiver, joining Johnson and Darden.
We don't have a Harvard tight end (Cam Brate) playing in this game but we've got one from Yale, and JJ Howland gets the Bucs' longest play of the game so far with a 29-yarder down the right seam.
Bucs have white jerseys and white pants tonight vs. Dolphins. Long-snapper Zach Triner as usual is the first one out in full uniform, with most players warming up in t-shirt and shorts ...
Everyone in play for the left guard spot will play tonight -- Aaron Stinnie, Luke Goedeke, Nick Leverett, Brandon Walton. I'm guessing Walton will play some tackle tonight, since the Bucs didn't dress their top three there.
Touchdown #Bucs! Vaughn runs it in from a yard out! Great block by Ko Kieft as well. #Bucs lead 13-3.
