Game News
Matt Stafford, Darrell Henderson, Cooper Kupp and Tyler Higbee have played all 32 of the Rams' offensive snaps.
Sony Michel effectively running the ball on four straight plays. Third and 2: Sean McVay says, "Let's pass." WTH?
Injuries from the early slate of games included: TJ Watt, Tyrod Taylor, Bradley Chubb, Tua Tagovailoa, Andy Dalton, Carson Wentz, Jarvis Landry, Darrell Henderson, Jr., Trey Sermon, Danny Amendola, Ja'Mycal Hasty and Nico Collins.
Every team in the NFC West came away with a win in Week 1, a historically strong start from the division. The Rams beat the Bears, and the Seahawks beat Los Angeles’ Week 2 opponent, the Colts.
The Rams will try to hand the Colts their second straight loss on Sunday afternoon when they visit Lucas Oil Stadium, an early 1 p.m. ET kickoff for the West Coast-based team. These early starts have never bothered the Rams before, and it’s unlikely to have much of an adverse effect this weekend.
Los Angeles looked absolutely dominant against the Bears in the opener, winning 34-14. Matthew Stafford lived up to the hype, and the defense didn’t miss a beat after ranking first in the NFL last season. Now, a bigger test awaits in Week 2
Stat you won't believe: Cooper Kupp now has as many receiving touchdowns (Three) this season as he did in all of 2020.
The Rams are now 39-0 under Sean McVay when they lead at halftime. @gmfb @RamsNFL
I mean, maybe throwing towards Jalen Ramsey on your first NFL attempt isn't a great idea but what do I know
Have a day, Matt Gay 🤩 @MGtweetymonster was perfect today ✅ pic.twitter.com/5HqchJpAzb
Remain positive, 4 takeaways: 1. Kristian Fulton becoming a reliable match up for opposing top wr's. 2. If he's not already, David Long Jr. needs to start ASAP! 3. Julio is getting his sea legs! 4. Derrick has learned how to dip his shoulder and really finish runs! #Titans
Update: ILB Kenny Young disqualified from the contest. Unsportsmanlike conduct, contact with an official.
Jacob Harris getting a rep at kickoff return in warmups (behind Jake Funk) is a thing that just happened, FWIW
FWIW - Taylor Rapp and Greg Gaines credited with the combination sack on that drive.
Rams LB Troy Reeder, excited yet nonchalant: "First NFL pick, it was cool."
Rams make the stop on fourth and goal - Leonard Floyd comes busting loose for the sack on Wentz.
And a MASSIVE special teams mistake gives the Colts the lead -- HOLY COW... the snap never made it to punter Johnny Hekker. Big swing in Indy.
Injury update: OLB Justin Lawler (hand) questionable to return to the game.
Protector Nick Scott shifted right into snapper's lane. Ball hits him, Dulin covers in end zone for TD. Absolutely insane.
Rams inactives vs. the Colts: QB Bryce Perkins DB JuJu Hughes OL AJ Jackson WR Ben Skowronek TE Brycen Hopkins DL Bobby Brown
Lots of good energy from a Sebastian Joseph-Day sack on third and nine and then...three and out by the Rams offense and a weird punt and then Wentz scrambles for 14. Huh.
DeSean Jackson was born and raised in Southern California, making his return to Los Angeles a homecoming this year. He watched Kobe Bryant become a star in L.A. and on Sunday afternoon, Jackson paid tribute to the late Hall of Famer.
Jackson wore a pair of custom cleats before the game with Kobe on them and the Lakers’ “Los Angeles†script across the right shoe. You can check them out in the two photos below.

Inactives for the Rams vs. Indianapolis: - QB Bryce Perkins - S JuJu Hughes - OL Alaric Jackson - TE Brycen Hopkins - WR Ben Skowronek - DL Bobby Brown theathletic.com/realtime/GQsxz…
Didn't mention it in the column, but Michael Pittman had a helluva game today.
The thing about Carson Wentz is that he makes a lot of plays where, if I were to just describe the play to you and leave the name out, you'd guess the quarterback was Carson Wentz.
Zach Pascal = 3 touchdown catches in 2 weeks. They needed that one.
For the second time today, the Rams defense came up with a colossal goal line stand to prevent the Indianapolis Colts from taking a lead. The first was a turnover on downs by Indianapolis, but this one was a takeaway by the Rams.
With about 10 minutes left in the second quarter, Troy Reeder picked off Carson Wentz’s ill-advised shovel pass from the 3-yard line to come up with a huge turnover. Aaron Donald gets the assist by bumping Jack Doyle, who was Wentz’s target, at the line of scrimmage, forcing the inaccurate pass by the quarterback
Taylor rushed 15 times for 51 yards and secured his only target for two yards in the Colts' 27-24 loss to the Rams on Sunday.
Taylor ceded a total of six carries to Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines, leaving with what's arguably a disappointing tally for the second time in as many games to open the season. The second-year pro had 17 totes in a Week 1 loss to the Seahawks as well, and his pedestrian average of 3.4 yards per carry Sunday only added to the disillusionment of Taylor's fantasy managers. He'll hope to garner a true lead-back workload for the first time this season when the Colts visit the Titans for a Week 3 divisional matchup.
First incompletion of the game for Wentz is off the hands of Nyheim Hines. Didn't hit him in the numbers, but Hines needs to haul that in. Hot Rod good from 48.
The Colts getting LT Eric Fisher back is a huge boost for their offensive line. And a nice boost for Fisher's wallet, as he earns a $140K per-game 46-man roster bonus, the largest such bonus in the NFL. Fisher can now make $2.24M if he plays in all 16 remaining games.
Quenton Nelson called the Colts' offensive line play in the red zone "unacceptable" multiple times. It's pretty clear he's pissed. Starts up front, and they're not winning up front. "We will get this fixed," he pledged.
Frank Reich: "I'm really encouraged with the way Carson's played (so far). What I'm discouraged about is the way we've played in the red zone."
I'll never understand why the Colts don't use Mo Alie-Cox more.
Nobody cares, but here's how injuries are affecting Colts already: *Wentz injures ankle after missing all of preseason *OT's missed games each of first 2 weeks *Darius Leonard is *clearly* not healthy *Missing 2 of top 3 WRs (Hilton, Campbell) *No X. Rhodes, top outside CB
I'm pretty sure Jacob Eason's coming in here at QB for the Colts.
Parris Campbell had just 1 touch in 46 snaps last Sunday. For an offense needing more explosive plays, a healthy Campbell has to touch the ball more.
Very cool halftime ceremony honoring two greats, Peyton Manning and Edgerrin James. Aptly summed up by Jim Irsay: "They helped build this stadium, they helped make this town."
Kenny Moore coming out of the game with a trainer as it goes into the 2-minute warning.
Relatedly, I don't think we've made a big enough deal about Xavier Rhodes' absence. It's killing the Colts.
Nice to see Marlon Mack get back in there. Long road back from that injury in Week 1 last year.
Looks like Isaiah Rodgers is playing over T.J. Carrie for the Colts right now. Carrie had a rough start.
Big mistake by Stafford. He had time and an open receiver underneath. Just overthrew Kupp. Khari Willis is the beneficiary. First INT this season for the #Colts and second takeaway.
Kwity Paye with an excellent pass rush on third down, then DeForest Buckner recovers in time for a QB hit that forces the incomplete pass.
The Rams triple-teamed Buckner on second down, and Stafford fires a ball that gets broken up by. ... Grover Stewart?
Coach Reich tells me Eric Fisher will start at LT, Julien Davenport will start at RT with Braden Smith out. With Fisher's practice time still minimal Reich will rotate Davenport into LT at some points behind Fisher and Matt Pryor would then slide into RT. #INDvsLAR #ForTheShoe
Good coverage by Julian Blackmon on third down, and that's the best defensive series of the year. #Colts
That's three straight three-and-outs for the defense. #Colts. And this one pays off with a rare special teams mistake by the Rams. Ashton Dulin recovers in the end zone, and Indianapolis leads for the first time today.
Matt Pryor will play at times at RT today for the Colts. twitter.com/LarraOverton/s…
Kwity Paye was not fooled on the reverse. Stayed home and strung it out to the sideline. Allowed rest of defense to get there. Then Kupp was wide open on third-and-10. #Colts
