Fantasy Hockey: Top Waiver Wire Pickups Heading Into Week 6

FSP Staff Nov 13th 8:12 PM EST.

We are already five weeks into the 2021-22 NHL season. At this point, players have started to round into form. Whether a player got off to a smoking hot start or they started slow, by now the majority of players have regressed to the mean. Some fantasy owners are dealing with injuries while others are dealing with COVID-related absences. Regardless, scrounging the waiver wire for pickups is pivotal to managing a contending fantasy hockey team.

Before getting into this, FantasySP is developing betting tools to provide users with something nobody else in the industry can offer. Upgrade to an Edge+ account today and get 50% off your first year at just $99.99 for the year. After a year, the price is going to increase to $199. Lock in your special early-bird deal today!

F Mats Zuccarello, Minnesota Wild

A player who seems to not be getting love this year is Mats Zuccarello. Zuccarello has been a staple on the Wild’s top line this year, but has not been getting fantasy love until recently. Zuccarello had been dealing with an injury for the past few weeks but is back in action. In his last game, he registered two assists. Currently, he is available in over half of fantasy leagues. This would be a great player to add to your roster if you are looking for another top-end offensive option, or if you are looking for a stack of Wild players if you already roster Kaprizov or Erickson. The former member of the New York Rankgers might be the top waiver wire addition heading into Week 6.

F Jordan Eberle, Seattle Kraken

The first Seattle Kraken player to make this list this year is forward Jordan Eberle. Eberle, who came over from the New York Islanders in the expansion draft, is currently on fire. With six goals in his last four games, including a hat trick, Eberle is an absolute must-add in all leagues. Eberle currently has 11 points on the season and that number should continue to grow as the Kraken gain more chemistry over the course of the season. Expect Eberle to keep up this production over the rest of the season.

F Mikael Granlund, Nashville Predators

A player who is having a great start to the season is Predators center, Mikael Granlund. Although he is not going to fill up the goal category, he has 14 assists on the year. He also already has 101 faceoff wins, making him a great addition to any roster in a category league. Centering the Preds’ top line, he should be able to keep producing the assists at a high clip, especially considering how much time he sees on the team's top powerplay unit.

Defensemen

D Moritz Seider, Detroit Red Wings

The defensemen pool on the waiver wire is very weak this week. There are no elite defenders available that really stand out. However, Moritz Seider may be the best available one if he is still on the waiver wire in your league. If Seider is available then you definitely should go out to try and get him. Seider, who has stepped into the lineup as a rookie, is currently on the Red Wings' top defensive line and is also seeing time on their top powerplay unit.

D Filip Hronek, Detroit Red Wings

Considering Seider. isgetting all the love from fantasy owners, people seem to be sleeping on his teammate, Filip Hronek. Hronek has produced 57 points over his last two seasons. Although he got off to a very slow start this season, he had produced four assists in his last four outings. Although Seider plays an important position on Detroit's top powerplay unit at the point, Hronek occupies that position on the Red Wings' second powerplay group. He has tallied two assists on the powerplay thus this season and should see more opportunities as he gets more comfortable in Detroit's system. Don't forget that Hronek also has racked up 20 penalty minutes and 23 blocked shots. You can certainly do worse than the young Czech.

D Brandon Montour, Florida Panthers

Montour is playing for. thehottest team in the National Hockey League. His days of offensive production when he was a member of the Anaheim Ducks are probably over, however, he still can provide some decent stats across a number of different categories. Montour has tallied seven points, four of which came on the Panthers' powerplay unit. That said, Montour's minutes are a bit volatile. But if you are desperate at the defenseman position, Montour could absolutely be worth an investment. His workload seems to be increasing game after game.

Goaltenders

G Cal Petersen, Los Angeles Kings

Peterson seems to be the goalie of the future in Los Angeles. He is in a timeshare with Jonathan Quick, but if the Kings start to feel like their season is in jeopardy, they will get Peterson more opportunities. Peterson has gone 3-0 over this last three appearances with a 1.95 GAA and .930 save percentage. Against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, he saved 33 shots in the Kings' victory.
