Week 2: Fantasy Hockey Trade Value Charts, Mitch Marner Buy-Low Opportunity?
The fantasy hockey season may have just started, but it is never too early to discuss prospective trades. Our fantasy hockey Trade Value Charts will help guide you through valuing your players. Our trade value charts are also used to help power our other tools, including our Trade Analyzer. If a member of your league has sent you a trade that you are unsure about, you can run it through our trade analyzer to see its fairness and value.
Now that the basics are out of the way, let us get into the best trade values.
F Kyle Connor, Winnipeg Jets
The first player I want to look at is Kyle Connor. Connor has opened the season on a tear, scoring six goals and dishing out three assists in the first week of the season. The Jets' top-line left-winger made the biggest jump in trade value this week as he has jumped over 5.5 points in the past week. Connor currently has the fifth-highest trade value of any player according to the trade value chart. If you are looking to sell high on Kyle Connor, now is the time to do it. He currently has a trade value rating of 11.1. An example of a potential trade that was run through our Trade Analyzer is shown below. As you can see, trading Connor could net you one of the best centers in the NHL in Patrice Bergeron, along with another middle-tier winger, Jonathan Drouin.
G Ilya Sorokin, New York Islanders
Another player that saw a huge jump in trade value over the past week was New York Islanders goalie, Ilya Sorokin. Sorokin saw a 4.0 point jump in trade value after racking up three wins in the first week of play, including back-to-back shutouts on Saturday and Sunday. Sorokin has a current trade value rating of 6.4, which is tied with Andrei Vasilevskiy for first among goalies. Maybe you missed out on a goalie in the draft or are looking to bolster that position, whatever the case may be, you need to look into adding Sorokin via trade. As stated before, 6.4 is relatively high for a goalie, so be prepared to give up a quality skater to add Sorokin. Players with similar values include Connor Brown, Mitch Marner, and Ryan O'Reilly.
D Evan Bouchard, Edmonton Oilers
A defenseman that has gained a lot of trade value over the last week was Evan Bouchard of the Edmonton Oilers. Bouchard saw an increase of 4.8 points over the past week, jumping him from a 2.9 trade value rating to a 7.73 trade value rating. This jump puts him into the top 10 defensemen. His trade value score increase was likely aided by his addition to the Oilers' top defensive pairing, where he skates alongside Darnell Nurse (9.8 TRV). Along with joining the Oilers' top defense pair, he has also found a home on their second power-play unit. Bouchard in his first full season with the Oilers has 5 points through 10 games this season along with adding 13 blocked shots while averaging 17 minutes of ice time per game. Bouchard has the potential to be a great fantasy defenseman this year. If you are looking to add him, he has similar values to Adam Fox, Joel Erickson Ek, and Patrick Laine.
Now that we have looked at the players who saw increases in their value, let us look at a player who lost their trade value over the last week of the season. This is a guy who may have lost trade value, but you should buy low on. Just like in the cryptocurrency industry, you want to buy the dips.
F Mitch Marner, Toronto Maple Leafs
Marner, like so many members of the Maple Leafs, is off to a slow start this year. Marner has yet to find the back of the net this year and that has cost him as he has lost 1.8 points of trade value. At the start of the year, Marner had a trade value above 8.1, he currently sits at a trade value of 6.3. Although Marner is off to a slow start, I do not expect this to last. He has been moved off of the Maple Leafs' top line and is now playing on a line centered by John Tavares. Marner posted one of the best seasons of his career when he previously played with Tavares. Expect Marner to break out of his slump and go on a hot streak. He has finished above a point-per-game the past three seasons, and I do not expect that streak to end this year. Buy low on Marner while you still can.
