It’s time for one final wrap up story on week 14 NFL action. We’ll look at each backfield that was in action this past week.

That leaves out the Ravens, Broncos, Texans, Colts, Patriots and Commanders, who were all on their bye.

Also be sure to check out the wide receiver/tight end usage article.

Jets

Breece Hall missed the game, so it was the rookie duo of Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis that led the backfield. Allen had 81 total yards across 15 touches and 37 snaps played, while Davis had 67 total yards on 13 touches and 36 snaps.

If Hall misses more time, you can expect both backs to split the backfield pretty evenly going forward. That doesn’t make either that great of a fantasy asset, but they aren’t too bad of options in deeper leagues.

Bills

Buffalo pretty much abandoned its running backs in week 14. James Cook only played 27 snaps and got eight touches, while Ty Johnson got two touches across 21 snaps. Ray Davis didn’t receive a touch across 13 snaps.

Cook is still the Buffalo fantasy back to own, but he’s not the safest of plays when you consider games like this. Both of Johnson’s touches were in the pass game (including a touchdown), but I wouldn’t necessarily say he's the top backup to own right now.

Dolphins

De'Von Achane got 20 touches across 60 snaps and should be starting every week despite some inconsistent showings.

Raheem Mostert missed the game, so Jaylen Wright got most of the backup work (four touches across 14 snaps). Jeff Wilson had two touches across four snaps. None of the backs are great weekly options outside Achane, unless the matchup is super favorable.

Steelers

Najee Harris had 16 touches across 27 snaps, while Jaylen Warren was on the field for 34 snaps and got 11 touches. Cordarrelle Patterson had five touches across nine snaps.

With George Pickens out of the lineup, the Steelers really relied on their backs, and that should remain the case until Pickens is back. That makes Harris and Warren starting options in all formats, especially in favorable matchups, while Patterson wouldn’t be a bad deep-league option in a pinch.

Bengals

Chase Brown dominated the backfield again, getting 20 touches across 59 snaps. Keep starting him every week.

Khalil Herbert finally got a little run, although it was just three touches across seven snaps. He’s just a handcuff at this point.

Browns

Jerome Ford (13 touches across 40 snaps) and Nick Chubb (11 touches, 26 snaps) led the backfield, while Pierre Strong (two touches, seven snaps) also got a little work.

This backfield is one to avoid in standard leagues in average-or-worse defensive matchups. Chubb is my favorite Cleveland fantasy back because of his touchdown potential, but I prefer to just play him in deeper leagues now. Ford is another deep-league option, while Strong shouldn’t be played in any leagues.

Titans

Tony Pollard for 23 touches across 40 snaps played, while Tyjae Spears was at just seven touches across 24 snaps.

Pollard is the guy you want to be playing, while Spears is little more than a handcuff at this point.

Jaguars

Tank Bigsby accumulated 19 touches across 31 snaps, while Travis Etienne had eight touches across 28 snaps.

Bigsby is the guy I’d want to start moving forward, but he’s still not a very safe starting option. Etienne has a little appeal in deeper PPR leagues.

Chiefs

Isiah Pacheco regained control of the Chiefs backfield, getting 16 touches across 32 snaps. Kareem Hunt had six touches across 20 snaps, while Samaje Perine was at two touches across 17 snaps and Carson Steele didn’t get a touch across six snaps.

Pacheco is back to being a good weekly starting option. Hunt is just a handcuff option moving forward. Perine and Steele can be dropped in just about every league.

Raiders

Alexander Mattison and Zamir White missed another game, so Sincere McCormick dominated the backfield again. He had 17 touches across 41 snaps and is the guy you want to be playing for the time being. He’s a better deep-league option though.

Ameer Abdullah had two touches across 26 snaps, but could lose his playing time when Mattison returns. White was placed on the injured reserve list, so he can be dropped in redraft leagues.

Raiders

Gus Edwards got 10 touches across 26 snaps, but Kimani Vidal was right behind him at eight touches and played more snaps (32).

I like Vidal moving forward, although neither are good fantasy options in standard leagues. Only in favorable defensive matchups would I try either Vidal or Edwards in a deeper league.

Eagles

Saquon Barkley got 20 touches across 44 snaps and remains a must-start fantasy player.

Kenneth Gainwell got five touches across 14 snaps and is just a handcuff option.

Cowboys

Rico Dowdle had 19 touches across 46 snaps and has become a good weekly starting option for the stretch run, in all leagues.

Ezekiel Elliott had three touches across six snaps and is just a handcuff.

Giants

Tyrone Tracy had 21 touches across 65 snaps and is the New York back you want to start down the stretch. He’s a flex option in standard leagues.

Devin Singletary had two touches across 14 snaps and is the handcuff to Tracy now. Singletary can be dropped in most leagues.

Vikings

Aaron Jones still leads the backfield after getting 15 touches across 38 snaps. Cam Akers got five touches across 19 snaps.

Jones is still a pretty good weekly starting option, while Akers is probably best viewed as a handcuff.

Packers

Josh Jacobs got 18 of the 20 backfield touches across his 40 snaps. Keep starting him every week.

Chris Brooks played 14 snaps and got a touch, while Emanuel Wilson got the other touch across three snaps. Brooks is the top handcuff, but neither are good fantasy options unless Green Bay is winning by a lot, or Jacobs gets hurt.

Bears

Roschon Johnson was out, so D'Andre Swift got 15 of the 21 backfield touches across his 42 snaps played. Swift remains the Chicago fantasy back you want to play.

Travis Homer got three touches across seven snaps, while Darrynton Evans had three touches across four snaps. Only Johnson has a little fantasy value behind Swift in this offense.

Falcons

Bijan Robinson led the backfield with 24 touches across 63 snaps. Tyler Allgeier got nine touches, but played just 13 snaps.

Robinson is the Atlanta fantasy back you want to keep starting every week. Allgeier has some appeal in all leagues in favorable matchups.

Buccaneers

Bucky Irving got hurt in week 14, so Rachaad White led the way with 19 touches across 47 snaps. Irving had five touches across 10 snaps before leaving, and Sean Tucker had three touches across 11 snaps.

If Irving is out this coming week, White would be the lead back and a pretty good fantasy option. Tucker would have some starting appeal, but only in a deep league in a tough defensive matchup.

Panthers

Chuba Hubbard led the backfield with 30 touches across 69 snaps. He’s back to being a good/great weekly starting option.

That’s because Jonathon Brooks tore his ACL and is out for the season. Raheem Blackshear is the only other back on the active roster, but nobody is likely to be fantasy relevant (outside Hubbard) unless the top back goes down with an injury of his own.

Saints

Alvin Kamara had 22 touches across 49 snaps and is still a good weekly starting option despite some so-so fantasy showings of late.

Kendre Miller took over the backup role, getting 10 touches across 18 snaps. Jamaal Williams had five touches across five snaps. Miller is a back to keep a close eye on, and might be worth starting in favorable matchups.

Rams

Kyren Williams got 31 touches across 64 snaps and remains a must-start fantasy player.

Blake Corum is the handcuff. He got eight touches across 13 snaps. Corum is another player to watch after getting eight touches in two straight games.

Seahawks

Kenneth Walker missed the game, so Zach Charbonnet led the backfield with 29 touches across 51 snaps. He’d be close to a must-start fantasy option if Walker remains out.

Kenny McIntosh was the backup, getting nine touches across 15 snaps.

49ers

Isaac Guerendo took over the Niners’ backfield, but left with an injury. He had 17 touches across 34 snaps.

Patrick Taylor was the top backup, going for seven touches across 20 snaps. He could draw the start on Thursday night if Guerendo can’t go. Ke'Shawn Vaughn had two touches across three snaps, and could take on a larger role if Guerendo is out.

Cardinals

James Conner got 22 of the 29 backfield touches across his 55 snaps played. He remains a good weekly starting option.

Emari Demercado (four touches across eight snaps) and Trey Benson (three touches, 10 snaps) were the backups. Both are just handcuffs to Conner though, not starting options, even in favorable matchups.
