Former Minnesota Vikings WR Adam Thielen Released!

Ismail Albiz Mar 10th 11:19 AM EST.

There has been a ton of breaking news across the National Football League in recent days. The latest is that former Vikings wideout, Adam Thielen, has been released from the team after nine seasons in Minnesota.

The 32-year-old athlete will complete 2023, the third year of a four-year contract, worth $64.2 million. With the release of Adam Thielen, the Vikings will free up $6.5million. Thielen, a Minnesota native, played his nine National Football League seasons with the Vikings after joining the team as an undrafted free agent. This past season, he caught 70 passes for 716 yards with 6 touchdowns. In 135 career games, he has 534 catches for 6,682 yards with 55 touchdowns.

Here is a look at the best possible destinations for Adam Thielen when he hits the open market:

Potential Adam Thielen NFL Team Desitinations

Buffalo Bills

Should Adam Thielen join the Buffalo Bills, he will be reestablishing the chemistry he had with Stefon Diggs during their playing days with the Vikings. More importantly, Thielen will fill in the role of the retired Emmanuel Sanders, and give Josh Allen a reliable weapon on slant routes to keep moving the ball down the field. Thielen would be able to do this as he is great when it comes to recording yards after catch (YAC), and having Thielen and Diggs together on the same team once again would cause some serious mismatches for defenses in the AFC. Although Thielen would likely slot in as the WR3 behind Diggs and Gabe Davis, this would be the makings up one of the top trios at the wide receiver position in the NFL (perhaps only behind Cincinnati's Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd). Thielen could be the addition this team needs for the Bills to reach the Super Bowl.

New England Patriots

Bill Belichick has complemented Adam Thielen’s style of play numerous times over the years. More importantly, now they have an experienced offensive coordinator, Bill O’Brien, calling plays, Thielen could be a pivotal weapon in the offense and Bellichick has experience using players with Thielen's skillset such as Julian Edelman and Wes Welker. It is well documented that the Patriots had the weakest wide receiver duo in the league this past season, and the arrival of Thielen could turn that around in a flash, by lining up across the field and drawing single or double coverage due to his impressive playmaking ability.  More importantly, their main wide receivers from this past season are set to hit the open market, which makes the addition of Thielen that much more crucial.

Wherever The Aaron Rodgers' Saga Ends

Aaron Rodgers and Adam Thielen are good friends on and off the field, and both have expressed their desire to play together one day. It remains to be seen what Aaron Rodgers’ future has in store for him, but if he returns to Green Bay along with Adam Thielen, the Packers would be that much more dominant. That appears to be the case, as Thielen will be already joining a duo that includes Christian Watson, and Allen Lazard. The three could team up to be the new triple-headed monster across the league, as the three can show off their flashes of brilliance when making plays to keep the chains moving, or taking the top of the defense. Thielen is a much-needed veteran presence that Green Bay could use in the wide receiver room to mentor Watson and fellow second-year wideout, Romeo Doubs.

Should Aaron Rodgers go to the Jets as it is being speculated, and takes Thielen with him, Thielen would have an immediate impact on their energetic and exciting young wide receiver room which features Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore, amongst many others. More importantly, Thielen would be able to fit in nicely in the slot, and make jaw-dropping plays courtesy of his decisive route running and playmaking abilities, allowing Wilson to showcase his hands and wheels as a true gifted deep ball threat. There won't be a dull moment in New York Jets football should Rodgers and Thielen land in a Gang Green uniform!
