2023 Fantasy Football Update: Former Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Eyes New York Jets As Potential Destination

Ismail Albiz Mar 7th 12:20 PM EST.

Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, has spoken with the executives of the New York Jets as a trade seems imminent, according to multiple reports.

Rodgers’ future with the Packers is still uncertain, having signed a three-year contract extension worth $150 million last March. However, Rodgers has been subjected to trade rumors during the offseason and many reports have linked him to the Jets, Raiders, and 49ers.

This speculation is sparked by the fact that the Packers haven’t seen much success as of late. This past season the Packers missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018, after going 8-9. In 2021, Rodgers put up an impressive MVP-caliber season while helping the Packers clinch the top seed in the NFC, only to lose in the Divisional Round to the San Francisco 49ers.

If Rodgers is traded, the Packers will be entrusting their first-round selection from the 2020 draft, Jordan Love, who has only made one start in his career. While he has only made one start, he did look formidable when coming in for relief against the Philadelphia Eagles. He finished 6 of 9 for 113 yards and a touchdown and showed great chemistry with dynamic WR Allen Lazard.

On the other hand, the New York Jets failed to qualify for the postseason for a 12th straight season in 2022, while finishing with a record of 7-10. Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, and Mike White all started a game under center and looked mediocre, which is why they would require a veteran number 12 to help steer the ship.

Fantasy Impact Of Potential Aaron Rodgers Trade

The New York Jets have most of the pieces to win now but are in desperate need of help under center. By bringing in Aaron Rodgers, they will acquire a veteran quarterback who will get the chance to mentor the league's most prolific wide receiver duo. The Offensive Rookie of the Year, Garrett Wilson, could explode with consistent play at the quarterback position, especially in the form of Rodgers. Rodgers will be able to replicate the success he had with Davante Adams, as Wilson seems to have the same skillset and is a lot younger, and more athletic. Wilson is highly deceptive on deep routes, and can easily take the top of the defense with his long strides and great pass-catching ability. More importantly, with Rodgers under center, Wilson is a sure bet to exceed his numbers from last season and establish himself as a versatile threat that will soon land himself a Madden Cover.

The other weapon that Rodgers will have at his disposal is Elijah Moore. If someone out there can help Moore get back on track, it is Nathaniel Hackett and Aaron Rodgers. Elijah Moore has all the tools to complement Garret Wilson. Moore has shown his play-making ability on slant routes and could become a favorite of Rodgers on short out routes to keep the chains moving.

With the passing game working with the help of Aaron Rodgers, this will open up plenty of running lanes for second-year running back Breece Hall. Hall, who is recovering from an ACL injury, will be looking to double the stats he put up in an injury-shortened season. This past season, Hall rushed for 463 yards, while receiving 218 yards and scoring five touchdowns in seven games. Rodgers and Hackett will have an immediate impact on the run and passing game which will get the best out of these youngsters, and help propel them in the right direction!

If Rodgers lands in New York, the entire offense should see a significant uptick in production this coming fantasy football season.
