Week 13 Fantasy Football Running Back & Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Pickups: Zay Jones Erupts!

Will Desvallees Nov 28th 1:04 PM EST.

There are a surprisingly large amount of free-agent running backs and wide receivers to consider targeting from the waiver wire this week. This includes JaMychal Hasty who had a huge game filling in for Travis Etienne after he went out with a foot injury. At receiver, Zay Jones, Nelson Agholor, and Michael Gallup stand out as viable options while fantasy football owners should keep their eye on Odell Beckham Jr. who is eyeing an imminent return with potentially the Cowboys or Giants.

Running Backs

RB Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers (37.00% Owned)

Though D’Onta Foreman is getting the majority of the carries out of Carolina’s backfield right now, Chuba Hubbard is still seeing plenty of touches and production. Altogether, Hubbard had a solid game on Sunday finishing with 65 rushing yards on 17 carries. The fact that Hubbard got 17 carries as a backup should be very encouraging to fantasy football owners who are looking for a free agent running back to claim from the wire. That said, game flow played a significant role and the Panthers won’t be blowing out many opponents like they did on Sunday against the abysmal Denver Broncos. Should Foreman get injured, Hubbard has proven that he is a trustworthy running back who can run the rock in between the tackles, catch short dump-off passes, and even block blitzing defenders. He filled in nicely for the injured Chistian McCaffrey last year. Although Hubbard’s ceiling isn’t very high, he has potential especially if Foreman goes down.

RB JaMychal Hasty, Jacksonville Jaguars (3.32% Owned)

Travis Etienne left the Jaguars’ game and was unable to return on Sunday. This left JaMychal Hasty as the top option coming out of Jacksonville’s backfield in the contest. Jacksonville signed the recently waived Darrell Henderson but he wasn’t active in Week 12. Henderson still needs to learn the playbook. On Sunday, Hasty filled in admirably for Etienne, finishing with 28 rushing yards, 67 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown to help the Jaguars defeat the Baltimore Ravens 28-27. While Trevor Lawrence was the true hero of this Week 12 AFC battle, JaMychal Hasty stepped up big when Travis Etienne went down. It looks like Etienne could be suiting up in Week 13. Still, Hasty could have earned himself some more carries and targets in the weeks to come.

RB Ty Johnson / Zonovan Knight" data-toggle="modal" data-target="#player-pop-up" href="/nfl_player_news/Zonovan_Knight/">Zonovan Knight, New York Jets

Michael Carter never returned yesterday after leaving with an ankle injury. In his place, Knight carried the ball 14 times for 69 yards, adding three catches for 34 additional receiving yards. The 2022 undrafted rookie got the job done against a pretty stout Chicago Bears defense. Depending on Carter’s outlook, Knight could be a priority add and a league-winning pickup, especially with the way Mike White opened up the passing game. Although White was used more than Johnson, the veteran also had a solid showing against the Bears, finishing with 62 rushing yards and a touchdown on just five attempts. Both running backs are available from waivers in practically all fantasy football leagues right now.

Wide Receivers

WR Michael Gallup, Dallas Cowboys (59.8% Owned)

Michael Gallup had a productive game for the Cowboys in Week 12 and came down with some incredible receptions. He had five catches for 63 receiving yards on Thursday against the Giants. Dak Prescott did a lot of passing to his tight ends Dalton Schultz and Jake Ferguson" data-toggle="modal" data-target="#player-pop-up" href="/nfl_player_news/Jake_Ferguson/">Jake Ferguson in this game. Still, Gallup had plenty of targets and an efficient game. He could be worth adding to your bench especially if you are dealing with injuries at wideout or need a bye-week replacement for someone like DeAndre Hopkins in Week 13. While Gallup hasn’t had one huge game this season, he’s been able to produce consistent yardage week in and week out. He remains Dak Prescott’s second option in the passing game behind CeeDee Lamb.

WR Nelson Agholor, New England Patriots (1.36% Owned)

Nelson Agholor had a solid game for the Patriots this Thursday. The veteran wideout had six catches for 65 receiving yards and one touchdown in Week 12. In 2022, he’s produced 310 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Considering the Patriots have a pretty difficult schedule to finish the season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mac Jones air it out a bit more as New England may be forced to play catchup. Agholor should demand a lot of attention as he’s one of the best deep threats on the team.

WR Zay Jones, Jacksonville Jaguars (43.75% Owned)

Zay Jones had a monster game for the Jaguars this Sunday. The 27 year-old wideout had 11 catches for 145 receiving yards in the contest. Last week, we told you to pick him up from waivers after going for eight catches and 68 yards against the Chiefs in Week 11. Over the last few weeks, he’s tapped into Christian Kirk’s targets and thunder in 2022. Jones has caught at least three passes in every single game this season and he set season highs in Week 12. Jones was phenomenal for the Raiders down the stretch last season and we could see another resurgence from him in Jacksonville as Trevor Lawrence continues to improve.

WR Odell Beckham Jr, Free Agent (58% Owned)

Odell Backham Jr. is expected to join the New York Giants or the Dallas Cowboys imminently. If he reunites with his former team which currently has a depleted receiving corps, Beckham Jr. really could have the chance to have a phenomenal few weeks of football as the Giants make a playoff push. He was playing pretty well for the Rams before blowing out his knee.
