Week 2 NFL DFS Sleepers On FanDuel

Will Desvallees Sep 16th 4:12 PM EDT.

Week 1 was chalk-full of surpises. Several backups had huge outings and Dak Prescott suffered an injury that will keep him sidelined for about half the season. This makes Dallas QB Cooper Rush a uniquely cheap option to target at the quarterback position in Week 2 DFS lineups. Remember, this article focuses on the players that will be low-oned but that also have a high ceiling. So without further ado, let’s take a look at some affordable yet smart NFL DFS options in Week 2.

Fantasy SP is proud to announce the recent launch of our NFL DFS Optimizer! Dominate on DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo with our trustworthy Lineup Generator!

Quarterbacks

QB Jacoby Brissett, Cleveland Browns ($6,600 on FanDuel)

The Cleveland Browns are taking on the Jets in Week 2. New York's defense was simply atrocious against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. The Jets only scored nine points on Sunday and couldn’t get into the end zone once. They allowed the Ravens to score 24 points comfortably, with two touchdown receptions landing in the hands of WR2 Devin Duvernay. The Browns looked strong in their season opener against the Carolina Panthers, despite playing without “superstar” Deshaun Watson. Brissett’s Week 1 start was solid. While he only completed 52.9% of his passes for 147 yards and one touchdown, he finished with a 74.0 rating, did not turn the ball over once, and helped his team defeat Baker Mayfield in Week 1. With Amari Cooper lining up on the outside in Cleveland this year, Brissett could have a big Week 2 at a pretty cheap price.

QB Cooper Rush, Dallas Cowboys ($6,100 on FanDuel)

As a result of the thumb surgery which will keep Dak Prescott sidelined for the next six-to-eight weeks, Cooper Rush will be the Cowboys starting signal caller in Week 2. While the Cowboys could make a mid-season move to find a better backup until Dak gets healthy, Rush played well in relief the last two seasons. Perhaps Rush can surprise fantasy football fans and take advantage of his opportunity as a starter. Michael Gallup has been ruled out in Week 2 but CeeDee Lamb, Jalen Tolbert, and Noah Brown make up a solid group of receivers, not to mention TE Dalton Schultz.

Running Backs

RB Michael Carter, New York Jets ($5,900 on FanDuel)

After Week 1, it seems like RB Michael Carter and not rookie RB Breece Hall will be getting the majority of the carries for the Jets. Before the game, reports surfaced that the Jets’ coaching staff was going to make Carter the pillar or the core of their offense. In the season opener, Carter had 10 carries for 60 rushing yards (6.0 AVG) and seven catches for 40 receiving yards. While Breece Hall should still show up on Sunday, it looks like the Jets will give Carter the vast majority of the touches on Sunday against the Browns.

RB Chase Edmonds, Miami Dolphins ($6,000 on FanDuel)

Chase Edmonds had 25 rushing yards (2.1 AVG) and four receptions for 40 yards in the Dolphins’ season opener. While he was rather inefficient running the football, Edmonds saw a lot of opportunities on Sunday and is Miami’s clear-cut workhorse over Raheem Mostert. Edmonds is a solid in-between-the-tackles rusher but he really excels in the short-passing game. Look for Edmonds to make some noise in the running and passing fame in Week 2. Tua likes to check it down. tohis running backs more than most other quarterbacks in the NFL.

Wide Receivers

WR Greg Dortch, Arizona Cardinals ($5,500 on FanDuel)

With WR Deandre Hopkins out until Week 7 due to a PED suspension, the Cardinals looked at other pass-catching options deeper on their roster in Week 1, especially with slot receiver Rondale Moore sidelined. Specifically, Kyler Murray was frequently going to former Wake Forest WR Greg Dortch, who had a highly productive game for the Cardinals last Sunday. The 5’7’’ speedster caught seven-of-nine targets thrown his way for 63 yards against the Chiefs. Dortch could see even more production in Week 2, as the Cardinals have ruled out Rondale Moore yet again, as well as Andy Isabella.

While Marquise Brown is the team’s best route-runner, Dortch was targeted a surprising number of times on Sunday. After his performance, DFS roster builders should certainly consider scooping up Dortch for Week 2. He could provide a massive return on your investment.

WR Jahan Dotson, Washington Commanders ($5,500 on FanDuel)

Rookie WR Jahan Dotson surprised many in the Commanders season opener. While he only caught three passes for 40 yards, he recorded two touchdowns. Doctson has emerged as one of Washington's top red-zone threats for newly-signed quarterback Carson Wentz. Considering Doctson scored twice in his NFL debut, it's safe to assume that he's earned more targets from his quarterback heading into Week 2.

WR D.J. Chark, Detroit Lions ($5,700 on FanDuel)

With rookie WR Jameson Williams still expected to be out for weeks, D.J. Chark saw significant production in the Lions’ Week 1 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles. Chark had four catches for 52 yards and one touchdown. While WR Amon-Ra St. Brown is hands down the team’s best receiver, Chark is seeing more targets than he otherwise would if Jameson Williams was active. In addition, there are concerns that RB D’Andre Swift will be out in Week 2. Since Swift gets a hefty load of targets, Chark could take over in that regard and be on the receiving end of more of Jared Geoff’s passes.

Tight Ends

TE Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers ($5,400 on FanDuel)

For the quarterback-shallow Pittsburgh Steelers, TE Pat Freiermuth had a solid performance in Week 1. Freiermuth caught five passes for 75 receiving yards (15.0 AVG). As a rookie in 2021, Freiermuth finished the season with 60 catches for 497 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Freiermuth will see significantly more targets, yardage, and end-zone grabs as opposed to last season. Based on his salary for this week, the Steelers top option at tight end seems like a viable and affordable option at the position in Week 2.

Defenses

D/ST New Orleans Saints ($4,000 on FanDuel)

The Saints Defense allowed 26 points, but showed what they were made of in the 17-point fourth quarter to win the game by one. In effect, the Saints D gave Jameis Winston three drives which he took advantage of to score two touchdowns and pass the ball downfield to get into position for a game winning field goal from K Will Lutz. In addition, the Bucs have some serious injury concerns particularly affecting their offense as they head to the Superdome.

On Sunday, the Saints have their home-opener against the NFC South rivals Tampa Bay. While New Orleans’ defense was caught off guard on the road in Atlanta in Week 1 (at least through the first three quarters), expect them to be on high octane to disrupt Tom Brady and the Bucs' offense in Week 2.
