Week 2 Fantasy Football Injury Report: Dak Prescott & Eli Mitchell Go Down!

Will Desvallees Sep 13th 2:37 PM EDT.

In the aftermath of Week 1 of the 2022 NFL regular season, we already have an onslaught of injuries to some key players. Dak Prescott owners will be devastated to hear that he will be out at least six-to-eight weeks due to a surgery he will undergo on his right thumb. Elsewhere, 49ers TE George Kittle (Groin) and RB Elijah Mitchell (Knee) are both questionable heading into Week 2 due to injuries. Other notable injuries which occured on Sunday include a concussion to Bengals’ WR Tee Higgins, a tweaked hamstring for Chargers’ WR Keenan Allen, and an injury to the ribs affecting Saints’ RB Alvin Kamara

QB Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (Right Thumb, Out Indefinitely)

Cowboys starting QB Dak Prescott sustained an injury on his right thumb in the 19-3 season opener loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football. What a heartbreaker for the Cowboys and for Dak. This means that QB Cooper Rush should be Dallas’ starter moving forward. Rush played the last six minutes of the game once Dak went down. Unless the Cowboys make a move for Jimmy Garopollo or for another free agent QB, Cooper Rush or maybe Will Grier will be Dallas’ starting quarterback until midseason.

WR Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Hamstring, Out 2-4 Weeks)

After recovering from an ACL tear, Chris Godwin had three catches for 35 yards before going down with a hamstring injury in Sunday’s game. Specifically, Godwin strained his hamstring and will be out for a few weeks.

In comes Julio Jones, who will be the team’s second best receiver for the next few weeks. Julio had three catches for 69 yards against the Cowboys on Sunday night. What a stud. With Godwin out for the next few weeks, expect Jones to split his reps with Mike Evans who will continue to be the top WR for the Buccaneers.

TE George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers (Groin, Questionable for Week 2)

George Kittle did not play in Week 1 after being ruled out just hours before the game. Seemingly out of nowhere, Kittle missed all of the team’s practices last week. Right now, we’ll have to wait and see whether or not Kittle will be available in Week 2. The 49ers got little offense going in their 10-10 Week 1 defeat to the Chicago Bears.

RB Elijah Mitchell, San Francisco 49ers (MCL, Doubtful for Week 2)

Elijah Mitchell had six carries for 41 rushing yards before going out with a knee injury. It’s quite unfortunate for Mitchell whose short NFL career has already been undermined by issues with his knee. As a result, expect for Jeff Wilson to get some big reps for the 49ers in Week 2.

RB JK Dobbins, Baltimore Ravens (ACL, Questionable for Week 2)

JK Dobbins has been nursing a torn ACL that ended his 2021 season. Though the Ravens listed him as questionable heading into week 1, Dobbins sat out their season-opener after being limited at practice throughout the week. It remains unclear whether the young RB will be able to start for Baltimore in Week 2. RB Kenyon Drake received the majority of the carries with Dobbins out but wasn’t very efficient running the football. He had 11 carries for 31 yards in the contest.

WR Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals (Concussion, Questionable for Week 2)

Bengals WR Tee Higgins sustained a concussion in their season-opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The concussion came after Higgins was caught in the middle of three opposing Bengals players that collided into his head on contact following a nine-yard reception.

As we can see from the tape, Higgins took a huge knock on the head from the Steelers defense. While he is questionable heading into Week 2, Bengals HC Zac Taylor stated that he felt Higgins’ evaluations have been encouraging so far. If this really is the case, Higgins could easily be ready to go for Week 2. At this point, Higgins should be considered probable more so than questionable heading into Week 2.

WR Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Chargers (Hamstring, Questionable for Week 2)

Keenan Allen left the Chargers’ home opener on Sunday not to return after sustaining a hamstring injury. While the severity of his injury remains unclear, the fact that Allen left the first game of the season not to return represents a potentially major loss for the Chargers and fantasy football managers alike. Expect Mike Williams to get more touches in Week 2, especially if Allen remains out.

WR Van Jefferson, Los Angeles Rams (Knee, Questionable for Week 2)

Van Jefferson was ruled out for Week 1 of the regular season as a result of a knee injury he sustained in training camp. At the moment, he has not been attending team practices and should be considered questionable, even doubtful perhaps for Week 2. With him out at the moment, the Rams’ offense will adjust accordingly. Besides Cooper Kupp’s 13 receptions for 128 yards and one touchdown in Week 1, no WR on the roster caught more than the 25 yards Ben Skowronek out of Notre Dame produced. Allen Robinson finished his Rams debut with just one catch for 12 receiving yards. Ultimately, while Van Jefferson remains out, Allen Robinson should see a hefty share of targets in Week 2.

RB Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints (Ribs, Questionable for Week 2)

Without it being reported, Alvin Kamara played the Saints season-opener against the Atlanta Falcons with an injury to his ribs. This likely explains why Kamara was held to nine rushing attempts for just 39 yards against the Falcons on Sunday. While the Saints failed to get their offense going until the fourth quarter of the contest, Kamara was clearly being underused by Dennis Allen in the game and now we know why.

Kamara probably shouldn’t have played in Week 1. It is unclear whether or not Kamara will suit up for Week 2. Regardless, Saints RB2 Mark Ingram had an atrocious game only recording 22 rushing yards and one FL.
