Vikings CB Kris Boyd Creates GoFundMe to Support Families of Robb Elementary School Shooting
Cornerback Kris Boyd is a proud Texan. He was born in Gilmer, Texas where he attended Gilmer High School. He then played college football for the Texas Longhorns between 2015-2018, before being selected in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
On Tuesday, an 18-year old who legally just purchased two AR-15s within days of his birthday, entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas killing 21 innocent people: 19 fourth graders and their two teachers. While Uvalde is approximately 400 miles away from Boyd’s hometown of Gilmer, this incident hit very close to home for Boyd who quicky created a GoFundMe in an effort to help the victims of this horrific shooting.
Boyd’s effort is one of many athletes using their platform to raise awareness and funding in regards to gun violence in this country. In his statement, Boyd explained that the purpose of his effort is to “show love and support along with those who I join. I created a GoFundMe for the families of the young children and teachers of Robb Elementary.” As of this afternoon (first 24 hours), Boyd has raised more than $4,100 from 81 different people. For a player who isn’t the biggest name in the NFL, his effort demonstrates that everyone’s efforts count.
As the nation continues to mourn with those impacted by the horrible events which took place on Tuesday, Boyd is just one of many athletes in professional American sports using their platform to raise awareness and funding for what took place.
