Week 14: Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Options

Matt Brandon Dec 9th 3:17 PM EST.

Streaming quarterbacks has become an acceptable strategy in the world of fantasy football. With four teams on bye this week (Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Miami, and New England), fantasy owners will be scrambling to find replacements for Jalen Hurts, Carson Wentz, Tua Tagovailoa, and Mac Jones. There aren’t a ton of solid quarterbacks on the waiver wire at this point of the season, but we’re here to help you find the top streaming options at the position in Week 14.

For the purposes of this article, we are going to focus on players who are owned in fewer leagues and who we know are starting in Week 14. There are not a lot of trustworthy options at the quarterback position this week, so you might have to take a gamble that you aren’t quite comfortable with.

So with that, let’s take a look at a few potential options to stream at the quarterback position in Week 14.

Week 14 Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Options

QB Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints

The Saints head to the Meadowlands in Week 14 to take on the dreadful New York Jets. New York is woeful against the run, but they aren’t too great at defending the pass either. They are allowing the ninth-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season, and have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks over the last seven weeks.

In Week 13, Gardner Minshew (playing for the injured Jalen Hurts) looked like the next coming of Tom Brady against Gang Green. He completed 80% of his passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns without committing any turnovers. Minshew made New York look like a Junior Varsity squad right out of the gate, lighting up a secondary that blew coverage assignments all day long. Minshew finished as the QB10 in Week 13.

In Hill’s first start of the season last week, he struggled with turnovers, finishing with four interceptions against the Dallas Cowboys. However, he still managed to finish as the third-best quarterback in fantasy in Week 13 after producing 264 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 101 rushing yards. Hill continues to prove that you don’t have to be a good quarterback in real life to be a great quarterback in fantasy football. Quarterbacks with dual-threat abilities are like cheat codes, just like playing with Michael Vick in Madden was an unfair advantage.

Hill is averaging 21 fantasy points per game in his five career starts dating back to last season. I have a feeling that Sean Payton is going to utilize Hill a ton in the running game, using him as more of a running back than a quarterback considering he is dealing with a finger injury on his throwing hand. Because the Jets rank dead-last at limiting fantasy production by opposing running backs, Hill should flourish. Expect another 100-yard day on the ground and multiple touchdowns from Hill.

QB Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

Since returning to Carolina, Superman has flashed some extreme highs and some extreme lows. He ran for a touchdown and threw a touchdown to Robby Anderson in his first two plays with the Panthers this season. And he didn’t even start that game. In his first start of the season, Newton accumulated 235 total yards, two passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown (with zero turnovers). However, he proved that he may not be the same player he once was when he completed less than 25% of his passes for 4.4 passing yards per attempt and threw two picks against the Miami Dolphins in Week 12. Newton was relegated to the bench in favor of P.J. Walker in that game. Newton and the Panthers received their bye week at the perfect time, which has given him time to prepare for a Week 14 matchup against an Atlanta Falcons defense that permits the fourth-most rushing yards and second-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season. In his last 17 games, Superman has totaled 14 rushing touchdowns! He is an absolute beast in the red zone and may be asked to run the ball more often with Christian McCaffrey down for the count. Newton has top-10 upside in Week 14 given the matchup and his improving chemistry with star wide receiver D.J. Moore.

QB Taylor Heinicke, Washington Football Team

Heinicke has far exceeded expectations after Ryan Fitzpatrick went down early in the season. He even led Washington to a massive upset over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10, followed by a three-touchdown performance against the Panthers in Week 11. However, Washington has really started to commit to their running game. Over their last four games, the only teams with more rushing attempts per game than Washington are the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite decent matchups against the Seahawks and Raiders the last two weeks, Heinicke hasn’t been all that fantasy-relevant due to Washington’s run-heavy approach. That said, Heinicke averaged 20.5 fantasy points per game in his starts from Week 2 to Week 11. This week, Heinicke faces a Dallas Cowboys team that leads the league with 416.3 yards of total offense per game. The Cowboys’ high-powered offense will force Heinicke to throw the ball much more often than he has during Washington’s recent winning streak. Taysom Hill and Derek Carr recently tallied 20+ fantasy points against Dallas and Heinicke’s mobility should provide him with enough upside to warrant a starting spot in your lineup.
