Now, who are the players fantasy owners are giving up on heading into Week 8?
Looking At Predictive Drops:
[predict="drop-2021-8"]
RB D’Ernest Johnson, Cleveland Browns
The absolute disrespect. No player is being dropped at a higher rate than the third-string running back that carried Cleveland on his way back for a 17-14 Thursday Night Football victory over the Broncos in Week 7. Johnson produced 146 yards and 22 carries and a touchdown, also chipping in two receptions for 22 yards. He was a monster and now he’s being dropped more than ayone else in fantasy football. Yes, Nick Chubb is returning but Kareem Hunt is expected to be sidelined for another three weeks or so after being placed on Injured Reserve. Fantasy owners are making a mistake by dropping Johnson. He should be given one more opportunity to see how he performs with a healthy Chubb in the backfield.
RB Mike Davis, Atlanta Falcons
Davis finally failed to produce double-digit fantasy points for the first time in six games. Davis was phased out of the game plan, only seeing four carries for 10 yards. It was also the first week of the season that he was not targeted by Matt Ryan. Clearly, the Falcons took their Week 6 bye very seriously and decided to fully commit to the electric Cordarelle Patterson. Davis is very safe to drop. He will have no value for the rest of the season.
[career="Mike Davis"]
RB Darrel Williams, Kansas City Chiefs
Fantasy owners are having a severe case of one-week overreactions. After scoring 20+ fantasy points last week and two touchdowns, Williams managed just 20 rushing yards on five carries and three receptions for 30 yards. However, Clyde Edwards-Helaire is not expected back for another few weeks, so there is absolutely no reason to jump ship. Fantasy owners need to let the Chiefs’ offense right the ship in Week 8 at home against the New York Giants.
WR Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots
Mayers is probably the best wideout in the league who has yet to score his first career touchdown in the NFL. Meyers has been remarkably consistent this season, but that isn’t necessarily a great thing considering he has failed to go eclipse 70 yards bar for a Week 3 outing against the Saints in which he produced season-high numbers across the board (nine receptions on 14 targets for 94 yards). Outside of that contest, Meyers has produced between 38 and 70 receiving yards in his six other contests, including three games with 44 receiving yards. However, Meyers has had two touchdowns called back due to penalties and was held in the end zone last week, preventing another score. Mac Jones is determined to get Meyers his first professional touchdown, which is why I’m pretty shocked that so many fantasy owners are giving up on the WR1 in New England. It’s not like he isn’t getting the targets. Meyers is being dropped far too often for my liking.
[lastten="Jakobi Meyers"]
QB Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers
In his first four games, Darnold appeared to have revitalized his career. He looked like a man possessed in his debut campaign with the Panthers. During that span, he eclipsed 300 passing yards three times, led the league with a whopping five rushing touchdowns, and threw five passing touchdowns and three picks. However, Darnold has struggled immensely in his last three games. And it’s not like the matchups were very difficult either. Against an Eagles defense that has been torched all season, the former Jets signal-caller managed just 177 passing yards and one touchdown, and three three interceptions. The following game in Week 6, he was at least mediocre, compiling 207 passing yards and 48 rushing yards, but he did throw an interception and lost a fumble. And then on Sunday, the Giants’ defense totally shell shocked Darnold, who clearly doesn’t like to play at MetLife. The Giants defeated the Panthers 25-3 and Darnold was benched after throwing for just 111 yards and an increception. He also committed intentional grounding the end zone, which gave the G-Men two points for a safety. I really thought Darnold had turned it around, and although there’s no way that he has lost his job, I have no problem with fantasy owners looking for a better quarterback on the waiver wire. There’s a reason more owners are dropping Darnold than any other quarterback heading into Week 8.
RB Damien Williams, Chicago Bears
With Khalil Herbert surpassing Williams on the depth chart, I’m actually quite surprised Williams isn’t way higher on the list this week. David Montgomery may return in Week 11 and rookie Khalil Herbert just rushed for 197 yards and a touchdown in his last two outings. Herbert is now the RB1 until Montgomery returns, so Williams can safely be dropped. Realistically, he should be the highest drop of the week.
