Top Waiver Pickups for Week 14
The fantasy playoffs are upon us and now is the most important time of the year to stay on top of waivers. For those of you still in it, congratulations and let's take a closer look at the top waivers for the week.
This week's waivers are dominated by quality running backs, starting with Mike Davis and Peyton Barber.
Mike Davis, Seattle Seahawks | 12% OWN
The running back carousal in Seattle continues onward except this time it stops on Mike Davis. He looked great on Sunday and his stats backed that up with 16 attempts for 64 yards and 4 catches for 37 yards.
We suggest prioritizing Mike Davis as your number one pick this week, despite the poor match-up against the Jaguars. He will likely be the back to own in Seattle throughout the fantasy playoffs and will finally get Seattle's running game back on track since Chris Carson went down.
Peyton Barber, Tampa Bay Bucs | 8% OWN
Just when you thought you knew what to expect in Tampa Bay. Heading into Week 13, most people thought Jacquizz Rodgers would be leading in touches with Doug Martin out. However, that was not the case at all.
Barber rushed 23 times for 102 yards and 4 catches for 41 yards and no touchdowns. If Doug Martin does not play in Week 14, then Barber could easily post quality RB2 numbers.
The Bucs face the Lions in Week 14, who give up the 6th most points to fantasy running backs. If Martin does not play, then Barber would be a very safe start as a RB2. Stay on top of his news here at FantasySP.
Giovanni Bernard, Cincinnati Bengals | 25% OWN
Giovanni Bernard has been the third back in Cincinnati all year until last night when Joe Mixon went down with a concussion.
Bernard made the best of his time in the backfield and ended the night with 13 attempts for 77 yards and 2 catches for 19 yards. He ran angry and looked like he had something to prove.
Opportunities opened up for Gio with Jeremy Hill already on IR and Joe Mixon in the concussion protocol. If Mixon can't go, then expect Gio to handle the workload which could easily amount to 15 to 20 touches against the Ravens.
The Ravens have an average run defense, so the match-up isn't too bad but it all depends on the status of Mixon heading into Week 14.
Jermaine Kearse & Josh McCown, New York Jets | 57% OWN
All hail the Jets offense with Josh McCown under center. You could do a lot worse at quarterback than Josh McCown for the fantasy playoffs. Sure, you don't want to get too cute, but if you are in a pinch for a starting quarterback then look no further than McCown.
McCown has posted back-to-back 300 yard games and lucked out in Week 13 with two rushing TDs to go along with 1 passing touchdown.
McCown has two quality receivers these days and one of them just so happens to be Jermaine Kearse. Kearse ended Week 13 with 9 catches for 157 yards on 10 targets.
In the past two weeks Kearse has had 262 yards receiving with 16 catches on 21 targets.
Marquise Goodwin, San Francisco 49ers | 40% OWN
Marquise Goodwin is quietly putting up solid numbers over the past 2 weeks and had a season high 8 catches in Week 13 for 99 yards. Goodwin looks to be Jimmy Garoppolo's favorite receiver to target.
Goodwin is a solid play as a Flex/WR3 but he has the potential to post some pretty big numbers moving forward. The problem for Week 14 is that he has a very tough match up against the Texans who give up the 3rd least amount of points to opposing receivers.
The Jets play at Denver in Week 14 and Denver has been struggling on defense. Both Goodwin and McCown are safe to start against the Broncos who are in a tailspin defensively and offensively.
