Seahawks sign Eddie Lacy
The Green Bay Packers just lost their best running back, Eddie Lacy, to free agency. The deal is for $5.5 million for just one year.
There is no official word if Ty Montgomery will be the Packers full-time back or not, but this move certainly adds depth to the Seattle Seahawks backfield.
The Seahawks already have Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise as their #1 and #2 running backs. Lacy is a physical runner albeit injury prone. Lacy only played in 5 games last season and finished the season with a 5.1 average, which was a big improvement over 2015's 4.1 YPC.
There are issues with Lacy's weight, but his new coach Pete Caroll doesn't seem too concerned.
"This is a big deal for him. It's a one-year contract for him. This is a chance for him to prove it and show where he is in the league and how he fits in and how he can work to secure a good future for him. And he knows all of that. Coming here is really something he's pumped up about because he knows how we see it, too. So we're going to get him in great shape. We're going to show him at his very best. There's a weight in there that's a really good spot for him that he's working toward. And we'll do a nice job with that."
