Is it time to give up on Willians Astudillo?
Willians Astudillo seemed like the perfect waiver pickup in early April and has a pretty solid statline to back up those claims. So far he is sporting a 295 average with 2 home runs, 7 RBI, and 10 runs batted in.
Those numbers are pretty solid when you consider that he has not been playing every day. But that is the problem. Astudillo is not an every day catcher and therefore you should not be counting on him.
Fantasy owners need to count on guys who have more playing time. The only way Astudillo should be own is in very deep leagues or two catcher leagues.
There are some fantasy owners out there that might sit Buster Posey in favor of Astudillo but that strategy simply does not make sense moving forward despite Posey's horrific start. Posey will get way more at bats and just yesterday he has showed signs of hope.
Fantasy owners have agreed with Astudillo's outlook. His ownership peaked on April 11th at 75% and has steadily declined to 51% as of today due to lack of at bats and simply not producing like he once was.
