Andrew Suarez's fantasy value
San Francisco Giants rookie Andrew Suarez has quietly put together a solid case for himself as a top waiver claim.
The past 5 starts for Suarez have been great and brought his ERA down from 5.06 to just under 4 at 3.92. Meanwhile his WHIP has been fairly consistent during this stretch hovering around the 1.25 to 1.28 range.
Aside from Suarez's three-game stretch in May, he has actually been a fairly consistent pitcher and someone who is safe to start week after week. That is a pretty shocking statement to make considering his own percentage never really went much above 25%.
In fact, today is the highest own percentage he has had all season which is 34%.
The bad news is that this week Suarez has a tough matchup against the Chicago Cubs and a so-so matchup against the Oakland Athletics. If you are willing to take the gamble with Suarez because he has two starts then go right ahead but he may be better on your bench for this week.
However, his real value will be long term in the second half of the season. Owners should grab him now with the plan to reliably play him in the second half of the season.
Our rest of season projection has him at a sub 3.50 ERA in the second half and is something fantasy owners will be regretting if they pass on owning him now.
