Profar's value as a popular waiver claim

Brant Tedeschi May 25th 1:34 PM EDT.

Jurickson Profar is a popular waiver claim over the past few days and let's delve into a little bit about what you should expect from him on your roster.

As of today, Profar is hitting .237 with 3 home runs, 26 RBI, and 19 Runs to go along with 3 stolen bases. His own percentage today is hovering at around 40%, so he is still available in quite a few leagues out there.

If you look at Profar's career as a hitter you'll notice there isn't a whole lot to go on. The 2017 was basically a lost season for him, and the 2016 season was quite poor hitting just .239 with 20 RBI and 5 home runs, 35 Runs and just two stolen bases in 90 games.

He will likely surpass all of his career highs, but that honestly isn't saying much. He will absolutely destroy your batting average in a category based league since he is a career .231 hitter. He may provide a bit of help in RBI and runs, but at what cost?

Think of Profar as a guy you plug in to fill an injury until you find a better player. The fact that he is eligible at 2B, OF, and SS certainly helps his value but he has a very low ceiling.

Again, spot starter for your team and nothing else. Those of you in deeper leagues may have no other option but to plug in Profar, but 12 team leagues should likely stay away from him.
