Chapman back in the closer role
Aroldis Chapman picked up his 17th save today against the Texas Rangers and closing out a 3-1 win for the Yankees. Chapman is now posting a ERA back under 4 with 3.92 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.
This marks his first save since August 15th. Chapman worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning in 12 pitches and two strikeouts. It looks like Joe Girardi made good on his promise earlier today to reinstate Chapman as the team's closer.
After working out the control issues, Chapman appears to be back doing what he does best. We fully expect Chapman to continue handling closer duties for the rest of the season, baring any type of injury.
