Starling Marte Suspended
Center fielder Starling Marte has been suspended for 80 games effective immediately.
Marte tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance that obviously violates the leagues policy. He will be suspended without pay and will be ineligible to play in the postseason.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are already pretty thin with players and losing Marte makes their chances of even getting to the postseason pretty slim. When addressing his team Marte was very sad and apologized for the effect his absence will have, but he wants his teammates to keep going.
When it comes to ped's no player ever likes to admit the fact that they knew what they were taking. Denial of an illegal substance is usually the route players take, and Marte is no different. He said he wasn't aware and should have paid more attention to what he was putting in his body. Marte is remorseful for this mistake and will miss being away from the ballpark.
