Top Fantasy Baseball Waiver Pickups for the Week of Jul 25th

Jul 25th 12:00 PM EDT.

These are the top 10 waiver wire trends for the week of July 25th. This week includes Reynaldo Lopez, Steve Pearce, Blake Snell, Michael Conforto, David Dahl, Sandy Leon, Howie Kendrick, Ryon Healy, Ryan Schimpf, Cheslor Cuthbert. These Waiver Alerts have already gone out to our members over the past past week as soon as we spotted them.

As always, if you want customized waiver alerts, weekly projections, and more then head over to the Fantasy Assistant. It's free to try and totally customizable to your league.

Nationals manager Dusty Baker confirmed Sunday that Reynaldo Lopez will be called up to start on Tuesday against the Dodgers.

The right-hander has been terrific in the minor leagues this season, posting a 3.19 ERA and 109/31 K/BB ratio across 87 1/3 innings at Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse. He's worth a look as a streaming option, and could carve out mixed league value if he manages to stick in the Nationals rotation.

Lopez will start Tuesday's game against the Dodgers, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.

One of the Nationals' better pitching prospects, the 22-year-old Lopez struck out 100 batters in 76.2 innings for Double-A Harrisburg earlier this season, eventually earning a recent promotion to Triple-A Syracuse for his past two starts. He'll make his MLB debut Tuesday against Los Angeles, but his stint in the majors probably won't last long, as Joe Ross (shoulder) should returns within the next 2-3 weeks, and top prospect Lucas Giolito is also an option in the meantime.

The Nationals are promoting right-handed pitching prospect Reynaldo Lopez to the majors, reports Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com (on Twitter). The 22-year-old could take the mound Tuesday for the Nats, who haven’t announced a starter for that evening’s matchup against the Dodgers. Lopez, a native of the Dominican Republic, has experienced a meteoric rise since signing…

Steve Pearce is not in the Rays starting lineup on Thursday.

It's just a routine day off for Pearce, who played in two straight games after being activated from the disabled list on Tuesday. Look for him back in his customary cleanup spot in the order on Friday. For more of Friday's rumors, check out Trade Deadline Daily. The Tampa Bay Rays are expected to be one of the more active teams as the Aug. 1 trade deadline approaches, with free-agent-to-be Steve Pearce among the names drawing interest, per ESPN'

Tampa Bay Rays utility man Steve Pearce made a loud return from the DL last night, going 2-for-5 with a home run in the Rays' 10-1 win over the Colorado Rockies. Now that Pearce is back in the lineup, he could be a trade option. Yahoo Sports colum

Blake Snell held Colorado to one hit over six strong innings, Evan Longoria homered and drove in three runs and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Rockies 10-1 on Tuesday night to end an 11-game road losing streak.Blake Snell allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings Tuesday night against the Rockies.

Snell stymied a good Colorado offense at a great hitters park. He walked three but matched that with nine strikeouts. This was the best outing of the young left-hander's career, and it could easily spark a breakout down the stretch. He currently holds a 3.11 ERA and 36 strikeouts through 37 2/3 major league innings.

Snell (2-4) allowed just one hit and three walks over six shutout innings and struck out nine in a win Tuesday over the Rockies.

This was by far the best start of Snell's career, as he set a new career high in strikeouts and posted his first shutout outing in the major leagues. He was downright nasty, as Rockies hitters swung and missed 16 times in 96 pitches. And not only did Snell dominate, he did so at Coors Field, an impressive feat for anyone, much less a rookie.

CHICAGO (AP) - Michael Conforto is hoping a short stay in Las Vegas turns into a strong finish with the New York Mets. Conforto rejoined the Mets before the start of a three-game series against the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs. The 10th overall pick in the 2014 draft was recalled ...Toby Hyde and Rob Brender are joined by MetsBlog's Maggie Wiggin to discuss the options in the Mets' outfield now that Michael Conforto has rejoined the team.

Conforto is in the lineup in right field Tuesday against the Cubs, Maria Guardado of the Star-Ledger reports.

David Dahl's rocket ride to the major leagues will land Monday when the Rockies call up their top outfield prospect for a series at Baltimore against the Orioles, a big-league source confirmed Sunday. The Rockies announced Sunday that top prospect David Dahl will be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday.

The club gets the benefit of having a designated hitter for their series in Baltimore to begin the week, so they'll take a look at the sweet-swinging outfielder. With Carlos Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon on the trade block, Dahl could be up with the big league club to stay. The 22-year-old is hitting .314/.394/.569 with 18 homers, 61 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 92 games between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque this season. He's immediately an interesting commodity in all mixed leagues.

The Rockies will promote their No. 2 prospect, outfielder David Dahl, to the big leagues. Dahl, 22, was hitting a combined .314 with 18 home runs and 61 RBIs between two Minor League stops.

NEW YORK — They’ll be making Chuck Norris-style jokes about Sandy Leon soon enough.Another at-bat meant another single for the emerging Red Sox catcher last night at Yankee Stadium. Leon went to right field in the second inning of the series finale, continuing the unexpected hitting from a guy who, right now, simply has to play. NEW YORK -- The legend of Sandy Leon begins in Maracay, a city in northern Venezuela near the Caribbean coast. It was there last October that Eddie Perez saw something almost nobody else did. Howie Kendrick laced four hits in five at-bats and added a walk in the Dodgers' loss on Saturday.

Despite reaching base five times, Kendrick did not factor in the scoring. He neither scored or drove in a run. Despite playing almost every day he has garnered only four home runs, 36 runs and 21 RBI on the season. He has a .261 batting average with seven stolen bases. It is not a very enticing fantasy package.Dodgers left fielder Howie Kendrick went 4-for-5 with a double and walk Saturday vs. the D-backs.

Spin: Kendrick's rough start to the season has affected his current .271/.329/.376 line, but he has been nothing short of fantastic lately. The 33-year-old entered the game with a .381/.447/.595 line in July and and that has only jumped after his four-hit effort. It's time to pick him up off the waiver wire even in mixed leagues.

Kendrick went 1-for-6 with a solo shot Friday against the Cardinals.

Kendrick led off the sixth inning with his fifth home run of the season, tying the game 2-2. The blast also extended his hitting streak to 14 games which began back on July 4. Through 17 games this month, Kendrick is hitting .383 (26-for-68) with nine walks and 12 runs.

Healy went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer -- the first of his career -- in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Athletics.

For the fantasy spin on this player, log in or become an Insider today.Ryon Healy has been with the A’s for a week now, and already the rookie third baseman is making an impact. He homered in his second start, a three-run shot that went a long way to producing a 5-4 win… Continue Reading →The post Ryon Healy quickly becoming an A’s clubhouse favorite appeared first on Inside the A's.

Healy was called up by the A's on Friday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports.

The 24-year-old corner infielder played mostly first base and some third base in the minors this season, and really exploded offensively, earning a trip to the Futures Game in San Diego. He hit .326/.382/.558 with 14 home runs and 75 strikeouts in 85 games between Double-A and Triple-A, and time will tell how much of his success can be attributed to the advantageous hitting conditions at Midland and in the Pacific Coast League. Danny Valencia figures to draw some interest at the trade deadline, so if he gets dealt, Healy will have a chance to get everyday at bats down the stretch.

Padres second baseman Ryan Schimpf went 3-for-5 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBIs on Sunday against the Nationals.

Spin: Schimpf now has nine homers in the month of July as he looks to establish himself as a Major League hitter in San Diego. The 28-year-old had been in the Blue Jays’ system for a while, regularly hitting 20-plus homers a season, but this is his first exposure to the big leagues. His power pace will slow a bit as his 60 percent fly-ball rate regresses, but his current 45.5 percent hard-hit rate points to a bat that many fantasy owners could use in their MI or CI slot.

Schimpf went 1-for-3 with a first-inning two-run homer and a walk in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Nationals.

The impressive rookie accounted for all of the offense on the day against a dominant Max Scherzer, taking him deep with a 415-foot shot in the first that plated Yangervis Solarte. Schimpf now has three homers in the last five contests, and has all eight of his round-trippers in July. He's tallied 14 RBI as well, but has also struck out 21 times in 54 at-bats. However, even a modest improvement in his contact rate would take the young slugger to the next level at the plate.

Ryan Schimpf slugged another home run Sunday as the Padres defeated the Nationals 10-6.

Schimpf hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning and a solo homer in the top of the eighth, finishing the day 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. The 28-year-old second baseman now has nine home runs in July, which is a new record for a Padres rookie in a single calendar month. Schimpf was raking at the Triple-A level prior to his mid-June promotion, so maybe this is for real.

Own Percentage Change Compared to Last Week: +391.54%

Cheslor Cuthbert hit his ninth homer Friday off the Rangers' Yu Darvish.

Cuthbert is 5-for-10 with three RBI in three games since the Royals moved him up to the second spot in the lineup. That jump in the lineup is almost enough to make him worthy of a mixed-league pickup, though we still don't think he'll maintain his current pace.

Own Percentage Change Compared to Last Week: +83.85%
