Trail Blazers News: Portland Suffers Some Bad Luck Ahead Of Draft Lottery They should still have multiple lottery picks, however... Author: Alex Kirschenbaum Apr 23, 2024 Earlier today, the Portland Trail Blazers were dealt a slight blow to their hopes of nabbing the top pick in this summer's upcoming NBA draft. According to The Athletic's Casey Hodahl , the Charlotte Hornets, who sported an identically miserable 21-61 record in the 2023-24 season, won their tiebreaker with Portland in a coin flip. That gives the Hornets a (very marginally) better 13.3% shot at moving up to nab the No. 1 pick in the draft, compared to the Trail Blazers' 13.2% odds. Portland also possesses the Golden State Warriors'

The Portland Trail Blazers officially have a 13.2% chance of receiving the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA draft after the league held random drawings Monday to break six ties in the league's overall standings. The drawings were conducted by NBA President of League Operations Byron Spruell at the NBA office in Secaucus, New Jersey. The tie closest to the top of the draft involved the Blazers (21-61) and the Charlotte Hornets (21-61). Both tied for the third-worst record in the NBA.

After a short break and one massive trade, Damian Lillard returned to the NBA postseason this year. Lillard had made the playoffs every year in the Western Conference between 2014 and 2021, missing out on the competition in just his rookie year on the Portland Trail Blazers. Now an All-Star on the Milwaukee Bucks, the point guard returned to form under the bright lights of the postseason.

Trail Blazers' Malcolm Brogdon's future with team remains unclear

The Portland Trail Blazers' rebuild likely will include trading veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon. Brogdon, 31, undoubtedly would like a chance to play with a winner, while the Blazers could use assets that better fit their long-term vision. When asked about his future earlier this week, Brogdon said he was unsure about what direction his career might take. Brogdon, who enters the offseason with one year remaining on his contract worth $22.5 million, has said all of the right things since Boston traded him to the Blazers prior to training camp.

Author: Alex Kirschenbaum Apr 20, 2024 The Portland Trail Blazers haven't made the playoffs in any of these past three seasons. In that time, the team has gone a miserable 81-165 while striving to build through the draft and by adding intriguing young players (plus the occasional bad veteran contract trade). Portland has used its last two lottery picks on G League Ignite point guard Scoot Henderson and redshirt Kentucky shooting guard Shaedon Sharpe, with the No. 3 pick in 2023 and the No. 7 pick in 2022, respectively. Scoot Henderson's rookie year with Blazers starts poorly, ends on high note

Source sports.yahoo.com. | 4 days ago.

The Portland Trail Blazers recently completed one of their more difficult seasons in recent memory; finishing 21-61 and dealing with injury issues that stunted a significant amount of the internal growth that head coach Chauncey Billups and GM Joe Cronin were hoping for from their young team. Of all the young players on the Blazers, no one drew more attention, and scrutiny, than rookie point guard Scoot Henderson. Drafted third overall from the G League Ignite, and deemed the replacement for franchise icon Damian Lillard, Henderson joined the Blazers with a significant amount of hype.

Blazers most to blame for rough 2023-24 NBA season

Source sports.yahoo.com. | 4 days ago.

The Portland Trail Blazers kicked off the 'official' first season of their rebuild in 2023-24 after a pair of losing seasons that culminated in Damian Lillard being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. While the Blazers' poor showing wasn't a surprise to anyone remotely paying attention, the season was still a disappointment in multiple ways – injuries (and the less-than-ideal player development that came out of them), rotational issues, and multiple 60-point losses capped off a difficult 21-61 season for Portland. If we were only talking about the last third of the season, Henderson wouldn't be on this list, but since we're covering the entire year, the Blazers' prized rookie deserves mention. After looking absolutely outmatched in his NBA debut, the Blazers point guard struggled with his outside shooting, turnovers, and foul rate.

Coming to B.C. is another stop in Moore's quest to secure an NBA contract. The mystery surrounding Dalano Banton's future with the Portland Trail Blazers will be an intriguing storyline to watch unfold this offseason. The 6-foot-9 guard/forward, acquired from Boston at the trade deadline for a future second-round pick, averaged 16.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 30 games for the Blazers with eight starts. Banton, who played just 7.1 minutes per game with the Celtics, said he greatly appreciated the opportunity he received with the Blazers. “I can't express how thankful I am towards the whole organization, just accepting me with open arms from day one,” Banton said.

Blazers GM Joe Cronin sees 'intriguing opportunity' within 2024 draft class

Source sports.yahoo.com. | 6 days ago.

The 2024 NBA draft, widely regarded as one of the weakest in recent memory, could present an “intriguing opportunity” for the Trail Blazers, according to general manager Joe Cronin. While the 2023 draft had a clear pecking order at the top, the 2024 draft lacks much consensus, which could create an opportunity for a team that does its due diligence to come away with a high-end talent they otherwise might not have had a shot at selecting. “We view that as an opportunity that might allow us to find a player that someone didn't value as highly,” Cronin said. The Blazers owned the No. 3 pick in last year's draft.

The Portland Trail Blazers just completed one of the most difficult seasons in recent memory, finishing an injury-plagued year with a record of 21-61. During team exit interviews conducted at the Blazers' practice facility in Tualatin, Portland GM Joe Cronin made it clear that, despite Portland's poor record, head coach Chauncey Billups would be back with the team next season. Said Cronin when asked about the Blazers' head coaching position, “We are committed to Chauncey next season.” Billups has one guaranteed year remaining on the contract he signed with the Blazers in 2021.

Sunday's 2023-24 regular-season finale arrives with the Sacramento Kings facing postseason uncertainty ahead of their matchup with the visiting Portland Trail Blazers. Sacramento (45-36) fell to ninth place in the Western Conference after a 108-107 loss at home to Phoenix on Friday. The setback, coupled with a Los Angeles Lakers' rout of Memphis, left the Kings with a variety of possibilities for the play-in round. A win Sunday over Portland, coupled with a Lakers loss at New Orleans, elevates Sacramento to the No. 8 seed and an opening play-in round matchup visiting the No. 7 seed - either New Orleans, which occupies the sixth spot entering Sunday, or current No. 7 Phoenix.
