Jim Alexander: Breaking news this morning – Reggie Bush will get his Heisman Trophy back. The Heisman Trust announced that after what it termed “a deliberative process” in determining that the landscape had changed, it saw no more reason to deny Bush his due because of the outdated, arcane and unevenly enforced (italics mine) amateurism rules that were then in play. When Caleb Williams, the presumptive No. 1 pick in tomorrow night's NFL draft and USC's most recent Heisman winner, cleared around $10 million in NIL earnings this past season, I think the contrast and the unfairness should be obvious.

A playoff series never truly begins in the NBA until the road team comes out on top. Tuesday night's playoff action was slightly different, with the Indiana Pacers and Dallas Mavericks both picking up road wins over the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers, respectively. In regards to the Pacers' win, even more questions are now being asked about Giannis Antetokounmpo's injury and his status for the NBA Playoffs. Giannis did not play in the Bucks' 109-94 Game 1 victory over the Pacers.

Earlier this week, the NBA finalists for several awards were announced, including the Sixth Man of the Year, and to the surprise of many, one name that was not one of the three candidates was Los Angeles Clippers guard Normal Powell. Instead, the three finalists chosen were Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Malik Monk of the Sacramento Kings, and Bobby Portis of the Milwaukee Bucks, and while Powell didn't have the statistical numbers of those three candidates, he did provide a great degree of depth and versatility to a Clippers squad that finished fourth in the Western Conference this year and is currently up 1-0 in their first round playoff series vs the Dallas Mavericks.

Luka Doncic and the Mavericks will try to even their first-round playoff series against the Clippers tonight (10 p.m. ET, ESPN, Sling). Monday night saw odds-on MVP favorite Nikola Jokic put up an insane 27-20-10 night in the Nuggets' comeback victory over the Lakers. Doncic, a finalist for MVP along with Joker and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, will need to do something great to one-up that performance.

The bigger, more athletic, more defensive-minded Mavericks roared into the playoffs by winning 16 games in an 18-game stretch. Don't be misled by the relative closeness of the Clippers' eventual 109-97 victory. The Clippers and particularly starting center Ivica Zubac imposed their will on the Mavericks and Dallas didn't respond until well into the second half.
