Zach Buchanan of The Athletic Arizona confirmed that Randall Delgado (oblique) won't be ready for Opening Day. Delgado has yet to appear in a spring training game because of the oblique strain. [...]
The D-backs gave updates on multiple injured pitchers on Friday.
Spin: Randall Delgado, who missed the second half of last year with elbow issues and has yet to appear in a Cactus League game this year, threw live batting practice Wednesday. "Looked fantastic," Lovullo said. "He threw all pitches, just knocking off some of the rust. He didn't land every pitch, but we were very, very satisfied with the delivery and the stuff." Reliever Jimmie Sherfy has also not pitched in a Cactus League game. He is experiencing some shoulder fatigue, according to Lovullo. "Just a matter of him giving us some input and the medical team feeling it was the best thing to just back him off a little bit," Lovullo said. Both pitchers could still be ready in time for Opening Day. Closer candidate Brad Boxberger threw a bullpen session Thursday. The right-hander appeared in a game on Feb. 23 and has thrown bullpen sessions since and will throw another on Sunday.
