TSN.com reports that the Avalanche have acquired Tom Preissing, defenseman Kyle Quincey and a fifth-round pick for Ryan Smyth.

Our View: Preissing wasn't the main ingredient in this deal. He only put up seven points last season in 22 games and the 30-year-old was waived at one point by the Kings. He will add depth in Colorado.

According to TSN.com, the Colorado Avalanche have traded Ryan Smyth to the Kings for Kyle Quincey, Tom Preissing and a fifth-round pick.

Our View: The Rockies needed to free up some cap space and trading Smyth took care of that. After having a miserable 2007-08 campaign, Smyth bounced back with 26 goals and 59 points last season. He'll be a main cog in the rebuilding process in LA.

Our View: Quincey heads to Denver with fellow defenseman Tom Priessing. He's a smooth puck-moving blueliner and will help bolster the Avs' power play. He put up 38 points last season and 27 of them were with the man advantage.

According to TSN.com, Rick Nash is sticking with the Blue Jackets. For a long time. The 25-year old sniper has inked an eight-year contract extension worth $62.4 million.

Our View: The yearly cap hit on the deal is $7.8 million. Nash, who scored 40 goals and put up 79 points in 78 games last season, looks to finish his career in Columbus. The extension kicks in after this season, in which he is slated to make a cool $7 million. Nash is a four-time All Star and is an elite fantasy scorer who will go in the first couple rounds of virtually every draft.
