As we start to think of this year's QB class, the question marks continue to pile up.

APStafford was at the top of the class in 2009.

Unlike last year, with players like Matthew Stafford, Mark Sanchez and Josh Freeman, the top prospects lack ideal size, have major injury concerns and, for some, come from offenses that don't model anything we see on Sundays.

Report: Bucs hire Van Pelt to coach quarterbacks

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose a guy with experience playing in the league when they tabbed Alex Van Pelt to be their quarterbacks coach.

Van Pelt joins Raheem Morris' staff and will be working closely with offensive coordinator Greg Olson to develop young quarterback Josh Freeman. Van Pelt was picked over ex-Bears quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton and former New York Jets assistant Joe DeFilippo, according to a league source.

Rick Stroud, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt said he is looking for QB Josh Freeman to improve on his accuracy and leadership skills for next season. The Buccaneersâ goal for Freeman is to complete 65 percent of his passes in 2010. Van Pelt feels Freeman needs to display more leadership. "He needs to be the first guy in the building. Itâs the leadership aspect we need from him," Van Pelt said. "He needs to be more vocal with teammates in and out of the huddle."

Ira Kaufman, of The Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Greg Olson said he believes quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt will help QB Josh Freeman more than he could because he has to concentrate on a number of things. "Alex gives me another set of eyes -- and that's big with a young group. At this time in his career, Josh has to have someone coaching him on every single snap. As a coordinator, I wasn't always able to do that. Alex played a long time in this league as a backup quarterback," Olsen said.

Rick Stroud, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to improve QB Josh Freeman's accuracy this offseason. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson believes Freeman will benefit from an offseason, training camp and preseason of working on fundamentals and timing with his receivers. Olson said the goal will be to help Freeman complete at least 60 percent of his passes next season. Olson is planning to tailor the teamâs offensive scheme next season toward Freemanâs strengths. Olson added, âWe've sat down, we've been having conversations throughout the season about what changes are going to be made. We've continued to have those talks since the season ended. Some of the terminology is going to change and he's very comfortable with what direction we're going and he'll be involved in it when he comes back here and we start putting this thing together.â
