"Done Deal."

According to three people with knowledge of the process, Tomlinson has decided to become a New York Jet. "It's 100 percent," one source said. "Done deal." Sources said Tomlinson is expected to announce the decision today or tomorrow. After nine years as a San Diego icon, Tomlinson was released in February. His 2009 season saw him post career-low numbers in carries and yards, but he left the franchise holding 28 team records and as the NFL's eighth-leading rusher all-time and third-leading touchdown scorer ever. In New York, he will back up Shonn Greene. (San Diego Union-Tribune)

FF Today's Take: Tomlinson visited Minnesota last week discussing the option of backing up Adrian Peterson (RB, RB) for the Vikings. In the end, he will fill Thomas Jones' shoes and share the load with Shonn Greene. Tomlinson's days as a premier fantasy back are over but he'll be worthy of a mid-round pick in re-draft leagues this summer.

"I really look at it as a guy that if we were fortunate enough to get him, we would have a 1 and 1A. He understands that dynamic. But he can do all the things that he needs to do in this offense," Childress said. http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Adrian_Peterson/828479 828479 Fri, 12 Mar 2010 11:25:02 EDT kffl.com http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Adrian_Peterson/828479 Jets Interested In Tomlinson Former MVP To Meet With Jets

LaDainian Tomlinson left Vikings headquarters Thursday without a contract and now will be wined and dined by Rex Ryan and the Jets, who are very serious about signing the future Hall of Fame running back, according to multiple league sources. The only thing that could have short-circuited the trip to New York was an 11th-hour deal with the Vikings to back up Adrian Peterson (RB, RB). Barring that, Tomlinson will meet with the Jets, who want to team the former NFL MVP with Shonn Greene. Tomlinson reportedly left Minnesota very impressed by the Vikings but wants to talk to other teams. He reportedly has visits with other teams lined up for next week and may visit the Eagles and Saints, who have former Chargers quarterback and good friend Drew Brees to recruit Tomlinson. Tomlinson has rushed for 12,490 yards and 138 touchdowns but has seen his numbers dip severely from 1,474 yards in 2007 to 1,110 yards in 2008 to 730 yards last year. (New York Daily News)

FF Today's Take: If Tomlinson's still looking to play a significant role on an NFL team, the Jets could be an ideal fit - he's likely to get more touches playing alongside a younger, less-established RB like Shonn Greene than he would playing behind Adrian Peterson (RB, RB). However, despite the Jets lengthy post-season run this past year, Tomlinson might have a better shot at winning a ring with the Vikings or Saints.

Tomlinson leaves Vikings, headed to Jets The Minnesota Vikings wined and dined LaDainian Tomlinson on Wednesday night, then spent much of Thursday meeting with the star running back in hopes of pairing him with Adrian Peterson in what would be a big-name backfield. http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Adrian_Peterson/827581 827581 Thu, 11 Mar 2010 19:35:02 EDT yahoo.com http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Adrian_Peterson/827581 Tomlinson visits Vikings LaDainian Tomlinson is in Minnesota meeting with the Vikings about joining Adrian Peterson in what would be a big-name backfield. http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Adrian_Peterson/826860 826860 Thu, 11 Mar 2010 12:35:02 EDT yahoo.com http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Adrian_Peterson/826860 L.T. may visit Jets If LaDainian Tomlinson does not sign with the Vikings on Thursday, he is scheduled to visit the New York Jets on Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: Even with Thomas Jones gone in New York, L.T. would be joining a crowded back-field (Shonn Greene, Leon Washington). Of course, in Minnesota he'd be behind Adrian Peterson, so neither situation is exactly ideal. One thing is clear, wherever he ends up, his fantasy value will be extremely limited.

L.T. to Vikes looking like a formality LaDainian Tomlinson sounds poised to sign with the Vikings on Thursday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: He's looking like he will be Minnesota's replacement for the recently departed third-down back Chester Taylor. More importantly, he should be a mentor for Adrian Peterson. Who better to teach the best running back in football how to hold onto the ball than the former best running back in football? Stay tuned.

Tomlinson Visiting Vikings Thursday Vikes Looking For Replacement For Taylor

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson will make a free-agent visit Thursday to the Vikings, according to Sports Illustrated. Tomlinson could be a replacement for Chester Taylor, who signed a four-year, $12.5 million deal with Chicago on Friday. Tomlinson was released by San Diego, so he wouldn't count toward the restrictions the Vikings are facing in free agency as one of the final four teams in the playoffs. Tomlinson averaged 3.3 yards per carry last season, and there are concerns about his explosiveness after nine years and 2,880 carries in San Diego. But as a third-down back, the role the Vikings must fill with Taylor gone, he could be a good fit in Minnesota. He has 530 career catches, averaging 59 catches per season. Tomlinson has lost 12 fumbles in his career, so his ability to hang onto the ball could be attractive for the Vikings, who have watched Adrian Peterson (RB, RB) lose 13 fumbles in three seasons. (St. Paul Pioneer Press)

FF Today's Take: Minnesota could be an intriguing destination for the veteran Tomlinson. Playing on an offense with fellow former MVP winner Brett Favre ("if" he does return), the Vikings can offer L.T. one thing that many other suitors will be unable to match - a legitimate chance at winning a Super Bowl.

LT's visit to Minnesota could end with contract LaDainian Tomlinson will be in Minnesota to meet with the Vikings on Thursday, and if the two sides can agree on playing time and money, he could be announced as a Viking shortly thereafter, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View: This news shouldn't really come as too big of a surprise; whenever a free agent meets with a team, if the two sides can agree on playing time and money, a contract agreement will inherently be reached. Still, it looks like LT to the Vikings is becoming more and more of a realistic happening, as Minnesota has identified him as their No. 1 target to replace Chester Taylor as their third-down back and backup to Adrian Peterson. The ball now appears to be in Tomlinson's court.

The Big Question: Tomlinson in Minnesota? A new Tuesday feature on the ESPN.com NFL blog network. Is LaDainian Tomlinson the right fit to back up Adrian Peterson in Minnesota? There has been... http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Adrian_Peterson/823605 823605 Tue, 09 Mar 2010 16:45:03 EDT Kevin Seifert http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Adrian_Peterson/823605 Tomlinson in talks with Vikings, others as well LaDainian Tomlinson has reportedly talked with the Vikings, as well as a few other undisclosed teams, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: Tomlinson would seem to be a nice fit in Minnesota. The Vikings are in need of a complementary back to Adrian Peterson following Chester Taylor's departure, and Tomlinson is a fine in pass protection and as a receiver, and Tomlinson is looking to sign with a contender (not to mention that a backfield with LT and AP would simply be cool). We'll have to wait and see what happens here, but it's clear the Tomlinson will receive a nice amount of interest as long as his asking price isn't too high and if he's willing to accept a role as a backup.

Chester Taylor has agreed to terms on a four-year contract worth $12.5 million, according to a league source. Taylor will be guaranteed $7 million, an unprecedented amount for a running back who turns 31 in September. But Taylor has only started one full NFL season, gaining 1,216 rushing yards in 2006, before Adrian Peterson (RB, RB) took over as the Minnesota Vikings' No. 1 tailback. Taylor, though, remained a valued part of the Vikings offense, and he completed his four-year, $14.1 million with the club. (Chicago Sun-Times)
