Andrew Bailey has been named the American League's Rookie of the Year for 2009, according to Noah Coslov of MLB.com. He posted 26 saves and a 1.84 ERA in 83.1 innings pitched.

Our View: Bailey won amongst a relatively weak crop that nonetheless included other worthy potential recipients in Detroit's Rick Porcello and Chicago's Gordon Beckham. He is the first reliever to win the award since Kazuhiro Sasaki did so for Seattle in 2000.
