Joe Mauer has become only the second catcher in 33 years to win the American League Most Valuable Player Award.The Minnesota Twins star was a near-unanimous winner in voting announced Monday by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, receiving 27 of 28 first-place votes and 387 points. Yankees teammates Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter were second and third.Mauer topped the AL in batting with a .365 average. He also led in on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

In a near unanimous decision, Joe Mauer has been named the 2009 American League Most Valuable Player, according to BBWAA.com.

Our View: After leading the AL in batting average (good for his third batting title), on-base percentage and slugging percentage, the Twins' dynamic catcher received 27-of-28 first place votes en route to his landslide victory. The only other first place vote went to Detroit's Miguel Cabrera. New York's Mark Teixeira placed second, while Derek Jeter was third. Cabrera was fourth.

The Yankees have outrighted first baseman Shelley Duncan from Triple-A.

Our View: Duncan has been outrighted twice by the Yankees now and will become a free agent. He has shown that he has plenty of pop in his bat, so expect some teams to show legitimate interest (dad, Dave, is in St. Louis), but he has struggled with consistency in his career. Wherever he winds up, he likely won't have any fantasy value.

Our View: The Yankees' bullpen looked like Mariano Rivera and then a bunch of question marks during the playoffs, so expect them to fortify things big time this offseason.
