Sunday at Minnesota, Miner was brought from the bullpen in the sixth inning to relieve starting LHP Nate Robertson and to protect a 4-2 lead. He pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, to hand the game off to the Tigers' late-inning relievers. "Miner quietly has been doing a tremendous job," manager Jim Leyland said. "That's why I didn't want to take him out (of the bullpen). He's too valuable there." Miner said, "Whatever's going to help us. "In the rotation, what would I give them? Three, four, or five innings, when I haven't stretched out in a while? There's no sense in that when I'd be right back in the bullpen for the playoffs. We need to win and I don't care what my role is. I want to get back to the World Series, and if that is what I need to do to help us, I want to do that."
