FantasySP / MLB / Jeff Suppan http://www.fantasysp.com/mlb_player_news/Jeff_Suppan FantasySP / MLB / Jeff Suppan Copyright 2009 632965 Mets interested in Pineiro According to Jon Heyman on Twitter, the Mets are interested in free agent starter Joel Pineiro.

Our View: Pineiro has a career year with the Cardinals in 2009, going 15-12 with a 3.49 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and the best groundball rate in the majors. He'll likely command Jeff Suppan/Brader Looper type dollars ($30 million for three or four years), but don't be surprised if his production replicates that of Soup and Lopper as well when he's separated from Dave Duncan. It's an obvious and disappointing trend.

His 5.30 ERA and 1.70 WHIP tell the story well, as does his .309 BAA; his 78/73 K/BB ratio in 159 2/3 innings completes the not-so-pretty picture. Suppan lasted only 4.1 innings and allowed seven runs on 12 hits while walking two and striking out two.

Our View: Soup is ready to put 2009 behind him, as his 7-11 record and 5.04 ERA are far from what was expected of him this season. His best days might be behind him, and so are his days as a fantasy pitcher.
