He was hampered by a variety of injuries over the course of the season -- which gave backup Koyie Hill the opportunity for some extended playing time -- but was never able to settle into a groove. Because of his disappointing sophomore campaign, his value took a big hit. That said, the 26-year-old’s bounceback potential could make him a quality late-round scoop in 2010. http://www.fantasysp.com/player/mlb/Geovany_Soto/612073 612073 Sat, 31 Oct 2009 1:56:16 EDT mlb.com http://www.fantasysp.com/player/mlb/Geovany_Soto/612073 Soto had been in yet another funk leading up to Saturday's game, going just .097 (3-for-31) over eight Soto had been in yet another funk leading up to Saturday's game, going just .097 (3-for-31) over eight games before Saturday's multi-hit outing. The latest cold snap only solidified Soto's 2009 campaign as one of the most disappointing for any position player. His .220 batting average, 11 home runs and 45 RBIs are far lower marks than what owners were expecting from the 2008 NL Rookie of the Year. http://www.fantasysp.com/player/mlb/Geovany_Soto/563238 563238 Sat, 03 Oct 2009 16:48:18 EDT mlb.com http://www.fantasysp.com/player/mlb/Geovany_Soto/563238 Soto gets on four times Saturday News: Cubs C Geovany Soto went 2 for 2 with two walks on Saturday afternoon in a win over the Diamondbacks. Our View: The two-hit day upped his average to a still miserable .220. His huge regression from 2008 has been on the extreme end of things, meaning he's probably not quite this bad, but he's probably much closer to this player than the one he was in 2008. His 23 home runs last season were out of nowhere after he displayed very little power in the minors, and he will shall remain a lower-end option in mixed leagues for the foreseeable future.

Soto finishing up in Hill platoon News: From The Sports Xchange notes: C Geovany Soto sat out Sunday's series finale in San Francisco in favor of Koyie Hill. After a brief spurt, during which he showed signs of coming out of a season-long funk, Soto went 3 for 25 (.120) on the road trip. Last season's Rookie of the Year has now splits time behind the plate with Hill, who has spent his first full season in the major leagues since originally coming up in 2003 with the Dodgers. The Cubs say they want Soto to report to spring training in top physical shape. His weight has been a problem throughout his professional career.
