Our View: This means that Hideki Matsui and Andy Pettitte will have to take a back seat for the time being. Scott Boras is likely the reason that the Yankees are focusing their attention on Damon, and he'll also be the reason that Damon ends up raking in more than he deserves. He'll be looking for a four-year contract, but don't expect that to happen. When the dollars settle, Damon should have a two or three-year deal and the Yankees will likely be completely out of the running for Matt Holliday.

The Jays have said they would be willing to trade Halladay within the division, and the Yankees are looking for another starting pitcher.

Our View: It is starting to look like Halladay to the Yanks could be very realistic. The Yankees have the money and prospects to get a deal done, and they have made no secret about the fact that they would like to make their rotation deeper this winter. If Halladay were to team up with CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, and Andy Pettitte, New York will be a heavy favorite to repeat as World Series champs in 2010.

Our View: So wildly overpaying for all three then? It is always amusing when the Yankees act as if they are being thoughtful and prudent with their money and decision-making, but the bottom line is, if they decide to keep all three players, they will pony up the money and the year to keep all three players. Their is not much strategy involved. Whether or not they will eventually have to bench Damon or Matsui probably won't factor into the equation.
